What are you all paying generally for pellets, and what brand? Amazon seems close to $1 per pound. My local Walmart has some Pitboss for a little over .50 a pound.
What do you all generally pay per pound?
-
Costco paying .67/lb.
-
Can I ask what brand and where you get them?
-
Sportsmans warehouse has GMG 28# for $15 and 20# Camp Chef for $13. Trager and Cabela's for $19 per 20#. I haven't looked anywhere else yet.
-
Menards has PitBoss 40lbs/$19. They also sell hardwood heating pellets 40lbs for $4. I used these a couple times this weekend and I'm impressed.
I found a local Lumberjack dealer on Craig's List selling 40lb bags for $16.
-
Amazon occasionally has pellets at .50¢ per pound.
-
$5.50/40 lbs,or $.14/pound. Gildale Premium Hardwood Pellets. S.W. Ontario,Canada.

Ive been buying mine at Menards also, buy a couple bags when they have the 11% sale going on.

Rural King sells Lumberjack for $9/20 lbs.

I get Q pellets or Lumberjack locally in Vegas at a wood supply store. Normally $.85 lb no tax. 20 lb bags. Love to go bulk with them but I have no one else in the Vegas area. If I buy 4 bags or more it's $.75 lb. That's not a bulk order though....
Not a lot of hardwood trees around here.... :'(
I might look into these heating hardwood pellets.
-
Over here in Australia we are not spoilt for choice and hence the price is up there
We pay AU $40 for a bag of GMG pellets
With exchange that is about US $30 a bag.
What are the GMG bags worth over your way.
-
Have been so long since I bought any other then a bulk buy or some heating pellets from Lowes I would not know what a bag costs!

There are plenty of folks in the LV area that have pellet grills. Have you contacted the big Lumberjack supplier about a group buy?
I'd be shocked if you could find hardwood heating pellets. There's no market for them in the west because transportation costs are too high and softwood pellets work fine for heating.
I'm paying $0.37/lb for Lumberjack delivered to No. California, group buy.

Been a few years since I bought these, when I did the store had a buy 3 get 4th bag free which came out to $.55 a pound

I always have an eye out for good pellet prices. You never know where they come from.
My 1st couple bags were Q pellets from Amazon. About a buck a lb. if I recall. Then Chris got hooked up with Amazon and they were selling his CookinPellets for $25.00 a bag. A LOT of us loaded up before Amazon got wise. I think I ordered about 240 lbs at that price. Prime shipping of course. And then there was that time he gave away a 40 lb bag with a donation to an animal charity! Chris is truly a class act.
My most recent purchase of any qty was from Walmart when they had PitBoss brand comp blend for about fiddy cents a lb.
Since then, I have order some specialty blends from Chis at the dollar a lb price, but I consider these unusual purchases.
I suggest anyone to load up when the price is right, sit back and bask on a job well done, and strike when the iron is hot the next time. I personally can't tell much difference in one brand to another. To me, the biggest difference is in the ash left in my pit and the bag. Those are subjective.
I always check Amazon as I'm a Prime member. They currently have Louisiana Grill pellets at a good price.
-
The last big buy I did was a pallet from Chris with a donation to the animal shelter.
-
Bulk Lumberjack $.25/lb
-
Would love to pay the amounts you guys are paying compared to the US $1.10 a lb that we roughly pay
But then again when it all comes down to it how do you put a price on happiness
-
Bulk Lumberjack $.25/lb
Wow that is great price for Lumberjack.

Bulk Lumberjack $.25/lb
Was that for 1 ton? It would of been about that for 1 Tom for me, but I bought 1/2 ton and price was around .44-.46/lb. I didn’t have room to store another 1000 lbs!

Over a ton actually, they will put 60 bags on a pallet so it helps get the freight price per bag down even further. I usually split it with 2-3 other people so I don’t need to keep more than about 15 bags at a time. It’s hard to beat that price.
-
Finally ran out of bargain Lumberjack, remembered that Winco used to carry Lil Devil for cheap. I’m sure I’ve used them but don’t really remember, most people seem to like them. Besides I’m with Bentley and never have burned a bad hardwood pellet and for $4.98 for 20# that’s way cheaper than any other pellets around here ($.50 per lb is the norm)
-
I have been over paying compared to others here. My LGS gets $25 plus tax for a 40#bag of BBQ delight. They are a small family run business and good folks to deal with so I guess I don't mind paying a little more. I will need to find a new source when we move to Arizona next spring.

Your local gun shop sells pellets?

:D you caught me using a common acronym that I use on another forum I frequent. Though I've seen it used elsewhere for local goods store...

Hey you never know when you need to be packing. Someone might sneak into you yard and steal a rib off your smoker ;D
-
If they do steal food off the grill, I show them the Wicked BBQ beans, they alway come back and give me bazillions of.... Shoot, nothin... But the beans are great!
LGS means nothin to me, but I ain't a gun guy except my pellet rifle for them darn Pigeons.

The local Tractor Supply Store currently has Pit Boss Competion Blend for $8.99 for 40 lb bag. They had previously been $19.95 a bag.
-
I habe been using mostly Bbq's Delight. I rotate between Cherry, Apple, Pecan and Hickory. Pay about 14 bucks for a 20 lb bag. I guess that comes out to abput .70 per pound.
I consider that a pretty good price. Isislly have 8 yo 10 bags on hand at any given time.
-
4.49 for a 40lb bag at TSC (warning, these are Ozark hardwood pellets) been using them about 3 years now absolutely no problems in my GMG.

Thanks! I drove over there this morning.

Since Perfect Mix has priced themselves right out of my range I now use Lumberjack Comp Blend. $8.99 per 20lb bag at my local Rural King.
-
Pit Boss competition blend 12.5 cents per pound at Wallmart. I purchased 7 bags for 35 dollars, and no tax either.
-
Anyone use Camp Chef pellets? Trying to find cheaper pellets in the Las Vegas area. $15 for 20lb of Lumberjack is about the best I can find.
-
I tried CampChef pellets a few years ago. They were alder based and so had very light flavor. I think they may now have some blended hardwood varieties that might be better. Why not just do a group buy for Lumberjack?
-
Well, not too many folks in the Las Vegas area. I got one who will go in a GB, but we'd only do 3 bags each at $.75 lb no tax. I asked the store owner, he says the long distance shipping costs is what hurts a GB at a good price from him. Not too many trees around here. :(
-
Did you contact the big online dealer that puts the group buys together for you? And someone in the SMF forum from LV said they were interested in LJ pellets - or was that you :)

Not me, but please enlighten me with that big online dealer. If needed message me if there are issues posting who it is.
Hopefully they aren't involved in any illegal arms deals with other pellet manufacturers... :D

PM sent.

To be fair to Perfect Mix, the cost to ship 'piecemeal'/one or two at a time is expensive - more than the cost of the pellets. That is why buying in bulk, can save in overall cost. It can be a little extra to set up, but with a few pellet friends in your area to split the shipment, it is a great experience and cost saver.. As an added bonus, you get to meet a few pellet fans and talk shop with a few new friends..
Just thoughts...
FWIW.. Amazon free shipping- is not exactly free.. Shipping is included and combined in the price - hence free shipping - on paper. + if Amazon is 'reselling' they will add a percentage for their profit...
As an eye opener - wrap or box a bag of pellets and either ship it to yourself or a neighbor - it should be an eye opener..

.55/lb for Lumberjack MHC through a local dealer in western Washington.

What part of SoCal?
I am in San Juan Capistrano and always looking for local pellet sellers.
-
I used to have to order mine online at $1/lb, but now I can find them easily at my local Menards and Rural King for no more than .50/lb.
-
Was pleasantly surprised couple days ago.
With the bitter cold we've been having the price of the heating pellets I use actually
went down.
Nice to know local hardware store isn't price gouging.
$4 even, for 40lb.
After tax price, just under .11 per lb.
