Went to the new WinnCo store here in Tulsa last two weeks ago.  They had a special table with beef from Mexico.  I bought two porterhouse that were 1 inch thick, with real nice marbling and they were $4.69 or so (under $5) a lb. clearly marked "product of Mexico".  Vac sealed them and into fridge at 38* to wet age.  Decided to grill one of them on Friday last. It grilled nicely to medium (I overshot the usual medium/rare).
Tenderloin was tender and tasty (not corn tasty)
The strip part was a little chewy, but also, same taste and overall good.
Conclusion: OK but not preferred. Not as tender as US produced. The price was right however.
I also bought one of their vacuum sealed tenderloins, ungraded for $6+ a pound, a US product. It is wet aging at present (two weeks now). Will wait another week or two before breaking it down into steaks. Have eaten these before and they were very good, but not tops.  Well worth the bargain price however.  For budget shoppers, a good source of protein.   :lick:
