  • Giving the DB a tidy up today and noticed the heat deflector needs a small persuading again as it has warped, two minute job so no problem. But! Got me thinking, I use only the centre piece of the 3 piece set it arrived with, has anyone upgraded to new SS one piece deflector, if so were there any noticeable differences in how the grill performs.
I’m in Australia, so added shipping puts the cost up otherwise would just go ahead and buy one and see for myself.
    Cheers

  • I upgraded it.  Bought my GMG DB second hand and it was warped bad.  It was night and day as far as making temps even out.  I'll PM you tomorrow with where I got mine from.  I'll have to find it again and don't want to post a link.

  • I still use the three piece design, and I agree that the warpage affects the temp evenness. I have bent mine back in as best I can, but I cant ever get it perfect. I usually position them to get the best even temps every time I clean it, takes a bit of time, but I can usually get it pretty close. Never even thought of upgrading to the new heat sheild.

  • I've got to apologize to the couple of folks I incorrectly suggested setting the new SS heat shield off center to the left.  I finally looked at the old post on PH and it's 3/4 of an inch to the RIGHT.  I have to change mine now because I'm a doofus and had it too the left too.  I'll have to redo my fire brick to get it to stay 3/4" to the RIGHT, too, since I move it over rocks from the barn to where I cook.  Wonder if I can change my screen name to IMADOOFUS?  ???  Sorry y'all!!  Did you ever order one ShireSteve?

Never, ever, never thought I'd be in the same category as Bentley.  Kids, dreams can come true!!

  • I ordered one a couple weeks ago.  Had the old 3 piece design. Didn't order the new drip pans though, I am keeping my old drip pan in there.
Seems to have evened out some what my temps from side to side but have some more tweaking to do on that.

  • Wish I'd have done that.  The two piece drip tray hasn't lived up to my expectations.  But I saved on shipping.  I wanted to direct sear, but with the better design of the heat shield no flames get that high.  The heat shield rules IMO.

Just not a fan of a drip pan with holes in it.  Seems like it would create a greasy mess between pans.  Really like the new style heat sheild also.

  • Thanks
One thing not shown in my video: You can move the center deflector more to the right to allow fore fire!

  • I hear the SS Grease trays with holes, are History!  Going back to the old heavy duty ones.  I think a lot of the temp issues occurred
    after the previous switch..

    What do these look like?

I have not had any issues with my two piece SS grease trays with holes.  I have grilled 1 1/2" ribeyes using Grill Grates that turned out fantastic plus a lot of chicken, burgers, etc.   I have also smoked a lot of meat in it the two+ years that I have had them.  My DB came with these trays.  I did have to put the notch into the heat shield to adjust the heat more evenly.

I would love to have an option to switch in and out. Most of the time I would prefer the single piece.  I am not fond of cleaning the two piece.
