  • Hi all,

Quick question.  How well does Pork Shoulder keep if frozen in it's original cryopac packaging  I was in my local supermarket picking up a few items, they had reduced pricing on pork shoulder .82 per #.  Freeze or sell by tomorrow (2/23).  A pretty good price in this area.  It was really too good of a price to pass up, so picked one up.  Only day I have to cook will be Sunday, but if it can freeze might elect to do that instead.  Otherwise, looks like PP for dinner on Sunday..... don't get me wrong that is never a bad thing.  I would have picked up a couple, but did not know if they freeze well, and worse, no room in the freezer.

    Thanks.

  • I know I have had some in the freezer for at least six months and possibly a year.  Thawed and smoked without issue.

Same here, no issues although have not gone a year but probably wouldn't be afraid of that.

  • Great, thanks.  I was pretty sure it would work out,  but thought I would reach out.  Appreciate the feedback.

  • I would buy 12 at one time when our local store had it for $.99/lb.  I would smoke six at once and freeze the other six.

$.82 lb?? Where is this at??

  • Bridgewater NJ Wegmans.  Sell or freeze by date was the next day (today), so I assume is driving the .82 per # price.  Would have bought more, but no freezer space.

  • I had no place to put them if I bought more, trust me I would have if I could have.  At the time, I was also not able to do a long cook this weekend.  Low and behold, schedule changed and now I will be cooking it up tomorrow.  I will post a separate thread on the cook.  I am thinking I will cook without foiling at the stall.  This will be the first time trying no foil.  I will post the process and results tomorrow, mostly just because first time trying without foil.
