As I cook year round, I ended up with what I thought to be a good BBQ gazebo to lessen the effects of mother nature. It was a big help..Three years later some of the plastic joints in the otherwise all metal fabrication started to deteriorate. Due to the shape and composure of these joints, repair was out of the question..Rust was starting to develop as well, so it was scrapped.. I was spoiled so I built- "Fort BBQ", a 62 sq/ft, all cedar construction with a metal gable roof and gable ends. Added later were eaves troughs with down spouts. That helped a bunch with dripping rain..
There is an 800 lumen light wired in for nite time use..I am now to the point I would find it hard too get along without it.
That's my long story. For the recordI have been cooking for decades outside.. The question still stands.

I do not put my grills under the covered portion of the patio. They stay off to the side away from anything they could start on fire. I would like to see some picture of your fort though.

My grills live on the back patio, but I roll them out to open space just to be safe while cooking. When I win the lottery or retire and move i will build an outdoor kitchen. :cool:

I have a retractable awning that covers most of the deck. When it is snowing, raining, or direct sun in late summer afternoons, I extend the awning to make cooking a little more comfortable. Does not help with wind and cold but keeps me dry all the same.

I've got my pellet grill under a oversized eve. It's stays dry, but I don't.
I've used my stick burner several times in my metal carport(10' tall legs). There's now a large brown spot on the tin. Lol

When it is raining or when super hot I will put up my Z-shade canopy. I wish I had a shed with a covered porch that I could cook under but I don't >:(.

Mostly the driveway here.
Have a few chairs and FUN.
Makes our garage smell like smoke, big plus.

Darwin, that is being hard on us northern folk..Enjoy your wonderful weather.. Wen we lived in Phoenix in the fifties, there was a restaurant that had a no-charge day if it rained... We enjoyed the weather, a lot... Friends would ask us if we wanted to go snow skiing in the mountains -Flagstaff. We rightfully declined having come from Canada to spend the winter there.

My smoker is under the eve of the house in back, so I guess it's under cover, such as it is. If there was one thing I wish I had the $$$ for it would be a patio cover in back. The grill gets wet in season and hot in season.

Usually its under the eve on the patio or in the garage entry if its really cold, rainy, windy back on the patio.

My Traeger is protected by an adapted log-store. My BBQ area is at the end of my garden, behind my garage. Which made it easy to simply drill through the wall for access to power and network connections.

I have a beach umbrella setup which is directly behind and over my smoker when the umbrella is open. If I need it I use it if not I don't. It has come in handy for the hot sun plus rain while I am cooking on it.

I get rained on a lot when cooking. Never been much of an issue for 8 years with the Traeger.
When the before mentioned lottery comes my way something like this would be nice.

DE, I see you got the cabinet you had inquired about. It fits in well with the rest of your cooking equipment. Your setup is top drawer.

Got the heavy cover for my GMG DB. That is on it when not in use. I park it under the eave of the house on my concrete patio. If it does rain, while in use, I just turn it around so I can open the lid from the backdoor of our garage. I can go in our garage open the backdoor up, fold up my front tray on the DB and not get wet. I have not had any problems with pellets getting wet or damp either. The cover is pretty sweet!!

I have a 18x11 foot shed/barn... it's mostly to store my lawn mower and a few other things in... but when I got my Fast Eddy PG500, I got this idea that I was going to put it in the back of this shed, so I cleared out enough space to put it in. I really should build me another shed just for smoking in... cause I'm so used to smoking in the shed that I really would not want to go without. It's got like 19 square feet of continuous sofit venting as well as a couple large doors that I were concerned about smoke... I keep a good 18" or more from any combustible material, and for the most part I have little to know fear of any problems with fire, since the PG500 is almost impossible to get a grease fire in while cooking in the indirect side...
Anway, I would like to build a shed about half the size of this one I'm using now, that would be dedicated to nothing but my pellet grill(s). Maybe this summer... All I know for sure is when I want to smoke food and it's 10F or colder outside... I am grateful to have a place where the wind doens't blow directly across my cooking area..

Yes, I cook under a covered porch. If not for that here in WA there is just no way to really bbq, not joking it rains pretty much 8mos a year.

I have a covered porch that I only use when there is rain or snow. Ceiling is high enough that with a mild breeze, much of the smoke and soot is carried away. Most of the time I am on the open portion that is continuous but not covered. By the way DE, that is some layout you have under your covered porch. Just don't get a grease fire.

That's why people in the NW don't tan, they rust.

I cook on my screened in back porch. Most of the time the sea breeze from the gulf blows the smoke away.
The positive side is the screen keeps the Florida state bird, "The mosquito" at bay.

We built our deck so it extends to the house under the covered back porch. So I cook under cover in the wet season and out in the open in nice weather.

I turned my yoder into a "built-in" so it is out in the elements year round. I couldn't talk the boss into a pergola so if I am using it in really bad weather I have to set up a little tent to help keep it dry.

I built a floating deck extension off of my main deck due to space restrictions.
I want to put up some type of a roof but am currently paralyzed by my inability to pick a design.

I cook underneath a water proofed deck in my backyard. House is built in a hill so I technically cook in the basement but it’s a full daylight.
If I didn’t cook under cover, I’d cook three months out of the year.

My wife is vegetarian so I’ve always called my gas grill the “Meat Kitchen.†I’ve cooked on it year-round (all weather) for years. However, this Summer, I’ve roofed a 2x4 metre section of the courtyard, put the two Traeger on a stainless work bench with pellet storage underneath, and installed an outdoor socket with LED floodlights. I should have done it years ago!

Unless you open the cover during a fire and don't put it down, how would a grill fire catch anything else on fire?
A Grill fire is never a problem till the lid is left open.

I know to people yo could ask one is my brother in law and the other is my wife. they both almost burnt down the houses but fortunately everything was caught in time. Now both of these incidents happen years ago however I am now always cognizant of how close my grills are to the house and the railings

A big 10-4 on that urnmor. Vinyl and wood siding are somewhat high heat and fire sensitive. Then there's the soffit above. Close calls trigger caution for most of us.

My siding is cement board, the roof of my covered patio is galvanized metal. If my hopper caught fire, it's fully enclosed in metal. I'm not sure how the fire gets out of the metal.
In any case, I routinely leave my grill running over night while we're sleeping. I'd never make brisket if I had to stay up and watch it.

Here is my setup. I’m under a covered deck. The cover is made of galvanized steel and I’m a few feet from anything combustible.

It was a nice place to get away, my son got older and it was tough to talk him into going out there for the weekend because he wanted to hang with his friends so I thought it was a great time to sell it.

For the past 4 years this has been my cover solution. I use the pit too much to mess with the fitted Traeger cover.
I hope this eases any fear of cooking in the rain.

I picked up a 12x16 gazebo from Costco and threw it on the deck to act as a cover. Started out for the wife to entertain but sort of ended up being a smoking area with a few chairs for friends.
