I like using my shop vac for cleaning out my pit, however, it does make it kinda nasty to use on my vehicles now. So I solved the problem by getting a new vac for my family's autos and my old vac will be dedicated to the smoker. Just wondering how many of you have done the same.

buckethead

Stinger 2.5 Gal. Just under $30. Use it probably twice a month. Scrape, vac, done. And you're correct, there is no other use for this vac, it's pretty nasty at this point.

I bought a badash2 on sale for $20.00 for fireplace and pits.

I also use a buckethead

I have an ash vac that I bought about 15 years ago to vacuum out my pellet stove in the house. It was expensive back then but it doesn't emit any ash clouds in the house that some shop vac's have done in the past. It does not get used for anything else.
-
I've got a small ridgid 6 gallon that's getting tired but for small cleanups of the grill, Perfect...
-
I have a bucket head as well. I use for the hopper. It seems to clog up often though. anybody else have that problem?
-
I also have a buckethead from Home Depot and two buckets; one for ash and one for pellets. I snap the buckethead on the pellet bucket and empty the hopper when needed, and can save the pellets. It works great.
-
I use my shop vac for any and everything.
-
I have a 4 gallon Porter Cable used only for the pit. It is small and easy to move around on and off the deck.
-
Same as DK - I have the Stinger. It's hard to beat at that price and it's great at this application.

buckethead
+1
-
I have two dedicated to it.
- A bucket head to empty the hopper (when I feel like it)
- A stainless steel one for ashes
-
Yes last 4 years.

Pellets jam in mine if I take a large "bite." When I go slower it's fine.
I replaced the filter with screen. It blows fines out the exhaust so it somewhat cleans the pellets. I was worried that the dust would explode due to static electricity or motor sparks near the impeller. So far, I'm shrapnel free.

Buckethead from Home Depot with two buckets. Like several of you, one bucket for ash and the other to get pellets out of the hopper.
-
Another Bucket head.

Same here.

"Shop Vac", 5 gal/6hp. Small and easily moved..Pit dedicated.

I’m a buckethead
(Yes, I’ve been called worse)

I have the Power Smith 101 ash vac. Does a great job, but the filter bag plugs during use and has to be shaken out after each use. If not done, all vacuum disappears as the motor chokes down. :help:The bag protects the motor filter from getting "ashed". I may just remove the bag and see how long it takes the motor filter to plug. NOT! Those of you who have this unit know what I mean.
-
I use my rigid for the grill only. Too much grease on it to use in the truck.
-
No, but I should, and I should just get one of those bucket heads!
-
I have a vac meant for cleaning ash. I switched after I saw how much ash my shop vac was kicking up during cleaning.
-
Yes, I use the small ShopVac. I think it a 1.5 gallon.
-
I have one, but it is buried in the garage. I have been using the Dyson V6 stick vac... Please dont tell the wife. :)

Holy Cow! That's an expensive grill vacuum (and fancy too). Your secret is safe with us.
I use the Shop-Vac ash vacuum. No ash or dust comes out the exhaust and it seems to tolerate the occasional lit pellet if I'm too quick to vacuum the grill after shutting it down.

I have a 1 shop vac that has been parked by the smoker for the past year . . . it's a dedicated vac now, but it didn't start that way. I wouldn't dream of starting that thing up in the garage anymore.

I bought one these.

Yes, Home Depot special, got it for like 25 bucks. Been using it near three years now no issues. Keep it under the smoker or to the side.

I have the same one that I also purchased on Amazon. I'm satisfied with it for the most part. It could use a longer hose.

We could all use a longer hose.

Seems there are several Buckethead vac users. Does it vacuum the ash without making a mess or firing it out the exhaust vent? Just use the filter that comes in the box?I wasn't sure if the Buckethead was being used for pellets or ash.
Thanks
-
Bucket Head for me as well with a piece of pvc pipe in the end of the hose to get into all the nooks and crannies.
-
Does the buckethead work well for ash cleanup? Or just pellet cleanup? Any special filters?

Been working for several years for me out of the box. I never changed a filter.
-
For ash too?
-
Works great for ash, too.
-
For ash too?
yes
-
Sure do. A small "Shop-vac". The only problem with any vacuum is GREASE. It makes a mess of the inside of the hose, and if not careful, the filter bag/filter.
-
That is why I quit and just scrape!

-
I suck up all of the black pieces that fall inside the grill with my bucket head. I don't use it or the hose for anything other than my grills.
-
I avoid the grease by not vacuuming the grease tray. The other parts down low are dry.
That probably varies by manufacturers' designs.

Last time I vacuumed my DB I was real impressed with how good a job I had done, until I pointed the leaf blower inside of it... Dust flew everywhere! ;)
Luckily no one was around to roll her eyes, snicker or to call me a dumb xxx.

I have done it many times before. It sure cleans almost everything out. Just makes a good job better.
