What do you all use?

If I need something sliced, I take it to my Dad who has a 40 year old Berkel commercial slicer.  I told him that goes to me or my brother when he is gone.  I think a new one goes for $1000-$1500 and is probably not built as well as his.  It is a manual one.  He just showed me a loaf of marble rye that he sliced on it today.  Unbelievable.  Looked like it came from the bakery that way.

Nice, like the price, just wonder how it would work slicing lots of cooked Tritip.  I saw a guys using his slicer a while back cutting his Tritip at a fundraiser and it looked like it worked really well.  Wish I would have looked at the name brand

Define lots?

My definition of lots would be about 8 tips for sandwiches for the guys at work.  Of course this wouldn’t all the time maybe three or four times a year.

I couldn’t tell you how much was at the high school football game, probably 20 +, the slicer was a life saver there.

8 I guess it could handle...Be honest nevere done that much at once, but I have done a 12lb ham a couple of times in one sitting!  If you are gonna do 20, you want something like the Zeny!

Been thinking about a 10" slicer I have one of the 8.9 or whatever cabelas and it just isn't that great. Looked on ebay, amazon and saw this one the other day, it show 320 watts compared to 240 on most of the ebay and amazon models, not sure what an extra 80 watts mean in performance.

I also have been looking to buy a meat slicer and had just about pulled the trigger on the Avantco SL310.

In reviewing their documentation, I came across this in the warranty:

Residential use voids the warranty.

Huh???

So, back to looking some more.

Yep a while back I emailed Avantco just to verify when I was looking at this model and they replied back that they were not able to honor the warranty on any of their 4 slicers when used in the home

And of course you asked them why, right?

I just looked at the sl310 and sl312 warranties and it says nothing about home use, only void if used to slice raw or frozen meat.

https://www.webstaurantstore.com/documents/pdf/warranty/avantco3_warranty.pdf

I was looking at the 310 model as it is 320watts vs the 240watts of the amazon, not sure what 80 watts means over all.

No I did not.   I'm sure they are not about to change their policy for me and neither do they have to explain their reason.  It seems to be standard policy on all their (Avantco) products.    And I have a right to move on to a different brand which I did.

Right underneath the frozen meat bit, in bold - Residential use Voids Warranty.

No biggie, hey I read it and still went through with emailing the company knowing full well the reply I would get.

I guess I am just more curious then others.  Would never have dawned on me they are going to change their policy, I would have just been curious as to why it was the policy.  And I don't know how they would determine if it was being used in a residence or not!

I have not known this company that long to know that the policy was different at one time.   Maybe they found that a commercial business would be more inclined to have separate slicers, one for meat and one for cheese or other things, and home users where more inclined to run everything through this one slicer including frozen and the odd pvc pipe from time to time.   As far as determining who is using it, probably could go by if it's shipped to a residence or not.  I know not a catch all but just a guess.   Anyway there are plenty of options out there including the Chef's Choice which you have had good luck with and don't seem to have a problem with an average joe or bobbert using their product.

Kaitlyn, sent me the following when I asked about the warranty being voided for home use.

"Hello,

Thank you for contacting Avantco! We appreciate your interest in our products. Avantco is a commercial brand and would not be designed or intended for home use. Commercial units often draw far more electrical power and are much louder than residential models, and many residential users do not expect the extra strain on their electricity or the extra noise.

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Have a great day!

Thank you, "

Thanks for that!  I don't get it, but as bobbert pointed out...That really does not matter to Avantco!

I don't either, when you figure that most microwaves are 1000-1300 watts and many other appliances as well as space heaters are 1500W

I have a Cabela’s slicer that looks very similar to Bentley’s. I don’t use it much, but it has worked very well when I have. If you watch close it sometimes goes on sale for up to half off.

I'm curious if anyone has experience with the Cabelas "Commercial" meat slicers?

I have looked at them at the local Cabelas store, and they seem much better built than the "regular" slicers that they offer, but haven't been able to find any really detailed reviews.

I just got a straight no we don't, not the added editorial that you got.  Had to laugh at the loudness comment, anyone can throw up a video of one of these running and know they are nowhere near as loud as a residential unit.   My parents had an old Rival that could wake the dead.    I ended up getting a 10" LEM, it's list price is up there but an online store was running a special $100 off.   So far so good but no real history  to give any type of recommendation on it.
