Winner of the "too little too late" award.
I just got an email that the meater blocks are starting to ship. With a top temp of 212º, it'll only be useful for low and slow. Looking forward to seeing how it performs but I don't think it's going to replace my Fireboard or Smoke.

I am not sure if I was in the first 1000 so I will no doubt still be waiting. I don't even remember how many years it has been.

That's an internal temp of 212. You can use it for high heat grilling.
I've been using the single Meater probe for a few months now and I like it. It's really nice not having to wrangle wires.
-
I hope to have time to review mine once it arrives next month. I am backer 407.
-
I just went and looked #362 so I should be in the first batch. Finally after 3 years.
-
Was it intended as a Internal Meat temperature gauge?

Each probe has an internal AND external thermometer which will be great for identifying hot/cold spots on your smoker.
-
Take the external temp with a grain of salt. It always registers lower due to the close proximity to the cold piece of meat.
-
Just a heads up - my Meater Block Survey specifying delivery address went straight into my Gmail spam folder. If you have not filled out your survey yet, check your spam folder.

AFTER 3 YEARS OF WAITING, I just got my shipping confirmation... Meater Block is scheduled to arrive on Saturday!
-
Post some pics. I’m curious about how the receiver on the Block works.
-
Evidently this thing has been out for a while since Amazon has quite a few reviews. Seems that most complaints are due to lack of range. One review mentioned that the app allows two devices to connect at the same time and, as I understood it, he somehow extended the range with a second phone. Interesting.
-
The single probes have been out for awhile. I’ve been using one for a few months. The Block has 4 probes and a receiver and is being shipping to early backers.
You can use two smart devices, phone or iPad to extend the range to the cloud via WiFi. In my case I have an iPad near the smoker just inside the house that connects to the probe via Bluetooth. That iPad then connects to the cloud via WiFi. Any device signed into the app can receive the data.
It works really well once it’s all setup.
-
Does the receiver that you mentioned sit close to the grill and retransmit the blue tooth information?
-
Iv'e been wondering what happened. I'll be watching for the reviews before i bite...
-
Does the receiver that you mentioned sit close to the grill and retransmit the blue tooth information?
Yes, the receiver included with Block sits near the grill and retransmits the signal.
-
Well it seems that it's still better than dealing with wires.

My Meater Block showed up on Saturday afternoon as my 18 hour brisket was just finishing up! I've not had a chance to use it yet but I did configure the unit getting it on my wifi and syncing with my phone. I will break it in this weekend, here is the final product:

Fancy packaging!

Cool. Post a pic of what the display looks like when you get a chance.
-
So each probe is wireless and transmits both internal & ambient temperatures? The Min/Max is? What does the Manufacture list as the range?
-
How bout a member review of the item?
-
So each probe is wireless and transmits both internal & ambient temperatures? The Min/Max is? What does the Manufacture list as the range?
The range is basically unlimited when using the Block. Probes connect to Block with Bluetooth and Block connects to WiFi to your smartphone or iPad. Just keep the Block near the smoker.
Ambient temp limit is 527. Internal Max is 212.
-
So each probe is wireless and transmits both internal & ambient temperatures? The Min/Max is? What does the Manufacture list as the range?
Correct. Internal max is 212 F, ambient is sustained 527 F but can handle higher temps for short periods of time (such as flare-ups).

3 years of waiting, I'm backer #1431 what's a little longer going to matter at this point
-
I do not have time right now to do an in-depth review but my first cook went well. I did two full chickens, probes 1 and 2 went in the breasts of the larger bird and 3 and 4 were in the smaller bird. Here is the app on my iPhone:

I’ve found that the estimated time works pretty good for smaller cuts of meat but not for pork shoulder and brisket etc.
Can we get a picture of the display on the Block receiver?

The screen is very small but functional:

I only use it on WiFi mode so the screen only shows the connectivity of the probes:

Let us know how they hold up over time. A lot of the reviews of the single ones said that they went bad fairly quickly. I'm very interested in this technology, but don't want to spend that kind of money on something that is gonna last for a very short time.

I’ve had my single probe for several months with no issues.

OK, guys. It's been over a year since the last post on this item. What are the thoughts of the people that own it and have been using it for the last year? I see they have the single unit for $99.
-
I started with the single Meater and really liked it except for the range. You essentially need two smart devices to use it. I picked up the Block on Black Friday for a solid price and have used it a few times. I have no issues with it. Really enjoying being able to use 4 probes with no wires.

What are the pros and cons of Meater versus other thermometers you have used?
-
For the Block.
Pros:
no wires
Cloud monitoring from anywhere
probes measure both meat and ambient temp
app is simple and clean
app predicts cooking time
app takes carryover cooking into account
app saves all the cooks
Cons:
Probes are too large for smaller cuts of meat
Ambient temp is affected by proximity to cold meat
The time prediction for large cuts is not super accurate
Need to add a notes option for each cook

How far away can you put the block from the Meater thermometers and keep connectivity to wifi? How do you clean the probes?

I haven’t tested the distance. I just set the block on my smoker side shelf. They connect to the block via Bluetooth so the distance won’t be great. Maybe 20 feet?
I clean the probes in the sink with a sponge under running water. Ok to get them wet for cleaning but you can’t submerge them.

Why do you need two smart devices? I want to use it in my prime rib roast on my rotisserie.

Why do you need two smart devices?
Because the Bluetooth range is poor with the single probe. You need a smart device next to the smoker to bridge to WiFi. Once you’re on WiFi you can view on your other devices.
-
If I am sitting outside about 12' away will I still need two devices. I want to get this to keep from opening my smoker to check the temperature to much. I will be sitting out drinking a cold beer while it is smoking.
Doesn't the block communicate to my smart phone via bluetooth?

You don’t need two devices with the Block.
The Block sits next to the smoker, communicates with the probes via Bluetooth and WiFi to your phone. The Block serves as the bridge to WiFi. The single probe that Meater sells doesn’t have this feature.

This is what I just ordered. Are you saying I need something else for this to work?

At 12’ you’ll probably be ok. They also have the Meater+ which would have better range.
-
I'm considering getting the 4 probes and block for $229 with Prime free shipping.

I have always enjoyed sitting outside while smoking something. I have a wired setup, but I needed something for when I use my rotisserie. As my neighbors know if I am smoking something I will be sitting out there drinking a cold beer or two. I forgot about the Meater until I saw the post today about it. It should be here on Saturday for the prime rib roast smoking on Christmas day.

It’s perfect for rotisserie
-
Santa brought me a Meater+ and I'm going to cook a brisket tomorrow into Sunday and try it out. Now I can use the Maverick thermometer to monitor both sides of the grate temps. Santa sure does know how to take a hint even if it was blatant. Thanks for suggesting it everyone!

My Meater worked perfect on my prime rib that was done on my rotisserie.
-
Do any of y'all know how long the battery life of the probe is? I've read 24 hours, so I plan on giving that a run for the money with the brisket I'm starting this evening.

I believe it's 24 hours on a full charge. I've smoked briskets and pork shoulders for 10-15 hours with no issues.
