Title: NFC/AFC Championships...
Post by: Bentley on January 19, 2019, 04:14:12 PM
I hope my Rams can win and the cheaters lose...

I am basing my vote simply on the age of the quarterbacks. Old guard vs. the up and comers. As an old guy I would like to see the vetrans have perhaps one more stab at glory (even the cheater)!

Long-suffering Chiefs fan here; the last time they were in the Super Bowl, I was 5, so for once in my life, I would know what it would be like to root for my team in the SB!

I believe it was pass interference and if it had been called the Saints would have won the game.  But Cant say we cheated by getting a non call...not the same!  But that is a tough way to lose out on a Super Bowl, and as a fan I have known that feeling a few times...

Man I watched the last quarter & overtime of the KC game and I see a Defense that did not understand the significance of the moment.  3 times your offence gets the team in a chance to win the game and 3 times the defense gives it away!  Youth!  Maybe next year the will understand there is no tomorrow...

I find it hard to believe that Tony Romo can call every Pats play from the press box based on formation, audible, etc. and the Chiefs DC did not have his team prepared with the same information.  If I was a NFL GM, I would be calling Romo to lead up my defense as that guy sure seems to know how to watch film and understand a teams tendencies.

It's possible that the Chiefs had the information but didn't properly act on it.  A deficiency of execution.  They knew what to do, they just didn't do it.

I didn't see them having a clue of what Romo was discussing.  At that level and in that type of game, if you know the tendencies you act on them.

It was games like yesterday that makes me think everything is rigged to get certain teams to the Superbowl.  Goodell has been pushing LA a lot the past years.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.  I didn't mean that the Chiefs chose to not execute properly or called the wrong defensive scheme.  I meant that they weren't able to stop what they probably thought was coming.  I think they tried to act on the Pat's tendencies but couldn't get the job done.

As I watched I would say, "They're going to throw to Edelman."  Sure enough, when they did, Brady would thread the ball in and the tight coverage couldn't break up the pass.  I've never had a football in my hand.  If I could forecast the play, so could the defensive team.

My opinion.

Romo is a great providing color during the games.  You can tell how much homework he did/does both as a player and now in the booth.  Much better than Collingsworth in my opinion.

One of the all time worst non-calls in NFL history.

The Saints got royally screwed. Even the NFL admits it. And that was just the worst of many non-calls.

I won't be watching the SB.

And what's with the roughing the passer call against Brady. The defender didn't even touch his head. Should have been 4th down and a punt, but the drive continues and they score. Pathetic!

It is interesting when our teams loos a close game we usually blame it on one play, however when our teams wins their bad plays are forgotten.  Anyway root for your team and don't trust the talking heads as it seems that most times 50% are wrong.  Just my opinion

I think the "non call" is all the Rams are going to hear about for 2 weeks.  How they lucked into the Game, and don't belong there.  I never played anywhere near Professional level, but I can guarantee if I had to hear that BS for 2 weeks, I would be ready for the 1st play of my next game!

I used to be this way.  Now, I say they had plenty of chances to put the game away and didn't.  Sure, one play may not have helped, but they shouldn't have been in that position anyway if they truly were the better team that day.  So, I give the other team credit for the W and I move on with my life.  I feel much better this way than I used to when games didn't go the right direction.

My favorite Romo call of the game was when he said Brady checked out of the play so now the guy is going to go in motion and they are going to run the ball to the right.  He had actually said that could happen earlier in the quarter, but Brady didn't check out of the play so they ran up the middle.  For him to know the tendencies that well puts other DC to shame in the league.  Why not disguise a scheme and then check into another when he does and have him fall into your trap?  Yeah, you can't do that all game, but if it works 1-2 times a game it can make a difference as we saw in both games yesterday.  I think a lot of DC in the league could learn a lot by sitting down with Romo to watch game film.  And, there are probably other Romo equivalents who are just as good as him out there who are not getting to show it because there are not many play by play analysts for TV stations.  Some people don't like watching a game he announces but I find it interesting and have learned a lot about the game over the last few years he has been on TV.

I have no side in any of the games this weekend.  That being said, if you rely on the refs to call a perfect game to win, you will probably lose more than you win.  A ref's bad/no call is as much a part of the game as the players fumble or spectacular catch.  Don't allow your team to be in a position where one call can make or break your chances.  Every year it is the same "boohoo" on the losing side.

In this day and age, with the technology that exists, the NFL could definitely do a better job getting the calls correct. They have all of these different angles to make TV viewership what it is, and then completely ignore the same technology when it comes to enforcing the rules. Week in and week out, there are blatant missed calls or incorrect calls, many of which impact the final outcome of the games. If the announcers can see the bad/missed calls and bring them up before the next play starts, the NFL can too and chooses not to do anything about it. That is bad for the integrity of the game and the NFL.

That said both the NFC  and AFC Championship games were competitive and went into OT. Good football was on TV and I enjoyed what I got to see.

Yes, they were.  I almost turned the first one off after it was 13-0 and should have been at least 21-0 after the first quarter.  Glad I didn't.

I'm a Vikings fan. I clearly recall the 2009 NFC Championship game Vikings vs Saints. Farve took many shots that day to his legs almost all of them would be illegal now. Came out that the Saints had a financial reward scheme going for anyone who could take out the QB if I recall correctly. What goes around, comes around. It's Karma. That being said, I watched two great games last Sunday. I'm hoping for a good SB game don't really care who wins.

Yes, a Viking fan here as well.  Absolutely LOVE IT when the Saints lose.  They are a chippy, cheap-shot team.

And now a video has emerged that would seem to indicate that one official was hand gesturing to the one with the best view to not throw a flag.

Everybody has teams they love and hate, but all teams deserve to have their games officiated by the rules that are in force by the NFL.

There was also a helmet to helmet hit early in the game that took out the tight end with a concussion that was not called. The defensive player clearly lead with his helmet, but no call.

And Roger Goodell is always spewing about the importance of integrity in the league. What a joke he is.

My favorite Pro Bowl story

In 2012, the Patriots LineBacker, Brandon Spikes, was upset that he wasn't chosen.  He was actually in tears.  His teammates were consoling him when Tom Brady walked up and said, "Do you think I play this **** to go to pro bowls?"

For the 26th consecutive year a Nebraska Husker will play in the Super Bowl.  It's the longest streak in CFB.

I'm certain that many other universities have put more players in the SB, but Nebraska has this one little record.

Plus the Ram's player was fined for the illegal, but not flagged helmet to helmet hit.

In regards to "The Cheaters". Ace Davis, a 10 year old fourth grader, based his science project on the hypothosis that Tom Brady cheated. The scientific community has spoken and it has been proven beyond a shadow of doubt, Tom Brady is a cheater! After all, the kid did win first prize!!

However, even with this clear cut evidence I will be pulling for the old guy to beat the upstart kid.
