Post by: MoonBeam on August 23, 2019, 08:02:27 PM
So we didn't get to a best supplier answer about which hickory.............

How about  choosing between Hickory vs Mesquite.

What would be your "Go to" pellet?

Grin... I'm getting closer............... :-)

I like grilling over mesquite but it can be overpowering for smoking.

I use a 50/50 mix of both. Give it a go, you might like it.

No? I saw a bunch of replies to that thread.

Are you talking about 100% flavorwood pellets? Mesquite is too strong for me for most food. It's also pricey. I use 100% hickory for everything.

My take on smoker WOOD that I use or have used with lump: Hickory, a good smoke on the strong side... Mesquite, a very pronounced and a slightly bitter taste.

I’ve been using pecan and really liking the results with my briskets, ribs, and chicken...

Pecan is a Hickory variety.  You have a finely-tuned palate.  (I'm not doubting you.)
