Enclosed in the attachements you will see a couple pics of a Traeger Texas Elite on our local Craigslist for sale it is brand new but as you can tell has taken a tumble. Wonder if you all think it is worth a chance to repair for $140 dollars. I think my brother and I can straighten out the metal. Thanks for all responses.

As you can imagine, pretty does not matter much to me. If it runs right now, and you are saying they will sell if for $140. Yes, it is a great deal, you can easily straighten that metal. It is not going to look new, but see my 1st sentence.

Even if you had to buy a new hopper and controller it would be worth it. The hopper seems to have gotten the worst of it. From what I can tell, the barrel is in pretty good shape. If the controller is toast, I'm sure you can find one of those for a bag of beans if you look hard enough.

You can get a stainless hopper lid cheap from Smoke Daddy if it's a 10" X 10 1/2". The barrel can be fixed with a couple of heavy hammers. One inside up against the metal and one hitting. Kind of like hitting something on an anvil. I use to build and drive stock cars in my misspent youth and have done such many times. Ain't nothing a six pack of your favorite beverage, a can of paint, and a couple of hammers can't fix. BP

definitely buy it if it is working. the metal can be fixed as stated earlier.

Plug it in, if the hot rod gets hot, the auger turns and you have air movement from the fan then you are golden. I’ve bought a few fixer uppers and find Traegers easy to work on and easy to get part

Had to put a new controller in it, went with the Ortech over the traeger to save some coin. Also replaced the auger motor this afternoon. The convection fan worked, the hot rod got hot and the auger turned. Including the price of the grill I am in just under $250 will try to do the initial burn in tomorrow. Didnt have time today before heading to work. Hope all goes well with that.

Good call going with the Ortech. I am glad I put one on my Traeger. Temps are much closer to the set temp now than with the factory controller. Now I just have to figure out the P settings. Were you able to straighten the dents??

The "P" settings aren't complex. Just rotate the adjustment knob.The setting will show in the display. Generally a P"0" gives the most even temps cooking 275º on up..Depending on ambients P"1" to P"4" are the go to settings in the SMOKE mode. Colder weather dictates a lower p# = less time between auger on cycles..Lowest is P "0" = lowest Smoke temp and most even cooking temps.. P "4" is about as high as you want to go w/o risking a flameout..

Dents came out pretty well. I may disassemble again this winter and work around where the controller mounts. Need to get some gasket material to seal the door. Initial burn is going on as we speak.

Burn in went well pretty uneventful. Thought the Ortech did a nice job controlling the temps. Probably not the smartest thing I have ever done but I have to cook a brisket and 2 shoulders for a family gathering tomorrow. I think I will see how the traeger does on an overnighter.

My Lil Tex with a full load of pellets tipped and fell while I was pushing it around the porch when brand new. It resulted in damage to the pellet bin just like you have pictured. I told Traeger about the accident, and they sent me a brand new hopper box, and after I transferred all the guts and controls, it was like new. I think if you can find a way to get a decent seal on the lid, and make sure that the auger is still spinning true without friction, it would be a great buy. You might inquire to see if the current owner can get you a replacement control/hopper box before you buy, (Traeger probably will do for the registered owner???). Just IMHO.
