Title: 2023 Memorial Day Cooks
Post by: Bar-B-Lew on May 29, 2023, 08:27:58 AM
I had bought a two pack of STL ribs at Sam's awhile back that were already rubbed with McCormick's sweet & smokey chipotle rub and in cryovac.  I pulled them out of the freezer this week to make this weekend.  I knew I had some issues with my pellet grills and did some looking at them on Friday.  Well, I have five pellet grills and none of them work right now.  I finally got around to cleaning up my Weber Genesis gas grill this morning.  Trying an old, new way of cooking.  I used to make ribs on a Weber and other gas grills with wood chips or pellets in foil pouch or in those small smoke boxes.  I had bought some racks on Amazon for something and decided to use them today to put the ribs over a foil pan so I didn't have anything dripping into the grill that I just cleaned up.  Will see how this goes.  I have all the burners turned off except the one on the far right with it set to about half way.  Temps on the lid were about 250°.  Wish me luck.

When I moved to where I am now I had no smokers readily usable, but had the gas grill smoked on it all the time using foil pack chips or a traysmoker with dust in it.

Hard to believe you have 5 pellet cookers and none work, how do you break 5 pellet cookers? :)

3 with pellet jams from wet pellets
1 with igniter issue and potential misaligned auger
1 mold and moss all over inside

Seems like you need a climate controlled building for your smokers.

I need to get rid of some of them, fix a few others and then bring them in the garage during the winter.

Just pulled the ribs off and wrapped them in foil.  They are sitting in a pan on the kitchen island along with a small pork tenderloin and some jalapeno and cheddar sausages.  I will now have food to eat this week.

I'm giving the Traeger a day off and am preparing a simple hamburger/pasta casserole dish for supper. My youngest brother and my wife's sister will be visiting over the next two weeks, so I'm sure the Traeger will get lots of work.

Ended up more the texture of a pork loin than ribs.  Edible anyways.

We went to the casino for lunch.  Also had ribs, however they were undercooked and tough.  Won't do that again.

Keeping it simple, just going to hickory smoke some Johnsonville bratts on the MAK. Will have with macaroni potato salad made for Saturday birthday party gathering grilled burgers and dogs. Also have some left over slaw with pineapple made last week for two different meals; pulled pork sammies and smoked mahi mahi tacos.

I have been smoking and grilling for five days straight. Today is the first day in a while that I am not cooking.

Burgers microwave well.  Do you prefer them cold when leftover?

I actually like cold burgers, a little butter on the roll some ketchup, one of the few things I like ketchup on, slice of cheese and some pickles.
