I just got a call from Keith Diekmann, formerly of Memphis Grills. Keith is now in charge of the Solid Fuels Division of Weber. They are launching a new pellet unit, the Searwood™ 600 Pellet Grill (https://www.weber.com/US/en/wood-pellet/searwood/searwood-600-wood-pellet-grill/1500120.html) He has asked PelletFan if we would like to do a Performance Test and we said we would love to!
It will be in a few weeks. We both need to get a few things in order before we can get started. Just wanted PelletFans to be the 1st to know. I am looking forward to it very much. Keith feels this unit has moved beyond the the Smoke unit in many ways.

More to come in April!

I'm soooo looking forward to your Performance Test. I've bought many items based on your straightforward, non biased, real world reviews. The video shows a pit/grill that will do everything I want in one unit. I hope that you prove it to be achievable.

Look forward to your review. I'm a big fan of Weber grills. And I have a lot of faith in any review that you do.
-
Speaks volumes if you ask me.
Looking very forward to it, we are in the market for something that is multi faceted.
-
It would be interesting if you went back to look at the concerns and issues some members here had with the original Weber pellet grills to see if those things have been corrected.
-
Great idea! Hopefully it will be covered in PT!

Waiting, waiting & waiting.
Back to the good old days: testing & good times!
-
Very interesting. Looking forward to your review of the unit.

Any word on pricing?
-
Suggested pricing is on the Weber site.

-
wonder if this will replace the smokefires or if this is just a lower price point unit?
-
This thing looks promising--I am anxious to read your review.

Per that web link, it looks like a lower price point unit with smokefire still being available in multiple models

Looking forward to this

I look forward to this. My 10 year old GMG just died. After a couple times of taking it apart and trying to get everything well lubed, I have come to the conclusion that sooner or later fans and auger motors just wear out. I will follow this performance test, maybe a Weber is in my future if it goes well!
-
Bentley would you please tell me what how you benchmark a unit. I am thinking of doing it on the new portable grill i bought off of Indiagago
Thanks
John

In Italy right now and I don't do well on the phone trying to use it as a computer so we'll be happy to try and answer your question by the weekend
-
No rush enjoy italy and we will be on an ocean cruise until May
-
Will use the tests we did on the 2 Camp Chef models. Stuff that is fairly objective and technical in nature, heat, set temperature control, grill space etc... Then some more subjective tests, smoke out put, how much smoke flavor is imparted.
Then I would like to solicit the Members to submit things they would like to see tested or reviewed!
Bentley would you please tell me what how you benchmark a unit.

I texted Keith (ITC1) from Weber yesterday afternoon. He said they would try and get the unit out start of next week, so it is giddy-up time!
-
The good ol days are back. grill looks pretty good and priced right. May the testing begin!

Not in line with the upcoming Weber test. Could't notice fans & motors wear out... I have written about the following in the past. These motors almost always have no lube
applied to the armature/bearing areas resulting in no starts to slow starts that are more pronounced in cold temperatures. It is rellativy easy to lubricate these points using
a needle oiler or a toothpick so as to the small amount of oil to these areas. A synthetic engine oil such as 5w/30 works very well & lasts for years. Conventional oil will
work & won't last as long. No need to buy oil. There is always @ least several drops of oil left in "emptied"oil bottles found @ auto parts stores, Auto repair shops etc .

Keith says he thinks unit was ready to ship Friday, so am hoping it goes out Monday or Tuesday and we can get cracking on it by the weekend!

This is good news! I am waiting with eager anticipation and looking forward to this.

There is another slight delay. Keith was not able to get into HQ in Chicago this week. I will update the site as soon as it ships!
