Title: How Many Pellet Pits/Smokers do You Own?

Now for a poll just dedicated to the number of pellet pits/smokers you own.  Again, if you have multiples, why?

2GMG Daniel Boones  and a Traeger 44 magnum which is just an 075.
GMG ' s bought one new and rehabbed the other from a Craigslist "tip over find" . Bent the hopper a little bit and since been taken care of. I had the Traeger 1st.

The GMG DC gets most of the attention because I'm mostly cooking for 2. Thought the GMG JB would get more use but for the most part it sits.

The main reason I have 3 is they were just too good of a deal on Craigslist.

Had 2 at one point. Figured I'd use both more, and just didn't. Thats why the pg500 went to my brother in law.

I use the DC for every day small cooks and the Traeger Select for larger requirements.

One just seemed to lead to another for me. Got the Pellet Pro, liked the unit and pellet cooking so much I decided that I was ready to get something a little sturdier and higher up the food chain, which lead me to the Blazn Gridiron. Enjoyed both units, but seemed I needed a bigger unit to cover for my functions I was hosting, which lead me to the CS Super Hog. Well the GMG Davy Crockett just seemed like too good of a deal to pass up and filled the portable unit that I didn't own.

I have two smokers.  The Traeger Junior has the tailgate kit on it.  It stays in the motorhome and I use it on trips.  The GMG Daniel Boone is for my home base.

Just the Memphis Elite. But what else would I need? Plus the garage can't fit anything else  :)

One pellet muncher...my MAK 2 Star.   We get along quite well... it may not be that way if I were to start cheating on her ;-)

Tailgater was a gift from a friend.  Love/hate relationship with it, but we're on better terms since the Ortech and mounting it on the cart.  I guess now I could call it a Junior since the legs are off.  I only use it when I am cooking two things at different temps and cook times.
GMG DB was a Craigslist find and too cheap to pass up.  Had to put in a new controller and hopper fan and now it's my go to for everything.

If you are asking me (not sure?) sadly I have not. In all honesty I am rarely overwhelmed with what I cook. I love doing it, spent lots of money, tried lots of things, pleased many, learned lots, still play, all while "doing it". I have had a few opportunities to help-participate, just never have. Having said that, my Son in law who happens to be a "tell it like it us" guy tells me often that I am too hard on myself. He did buy a GMG as a result, I can say that I am a touch better but like him I just like to eat, so I do.

I was saying we have 3 for competitions.

But after hearing what you had to say, you definitely need to come cook with us in Kansas City for the 2018 American Royal!

Canadian John asked about this type of poll in another thread, so thought I would bump it.

I have 2 Memphis pellet pits, probably not considered smokers but I have a ceramic egg style and a Weber Performer which I use pellets in to add smoke Flavor. I also use pellets in my gasser. I cook on a wood fire pit with a grate as well & roast hot dogs on a outdoor fireplace. I don’t use my portable gasser much or my camp chef 3 burner camp stove with griddle.

I have a Kuma Platinum SE and a Memphis Elite.   I loved my Kuma but could not pass up the deal I got on the Elite.  My brother-in-law wants to buy my Kuma and I will probably sell it to him since I have no need for 2 grills.  Its just me and my wife and when we entertain its usually 12 people or less-the Elite should handle that easily.

If you ever get into making bit batches of jerky or needing to cook multiple things at different temps, you may wish that you had both grills.  If you have the room and don't need the money, I would hold onto both.  But, I guess you could always borrow it from your BIL if necessary.

I have a Traeger Lil Tex and a Yoder YS640. Why did I get the 2nd one you ask. Because the price was too good to pass up.

I started with the Traeger and have been pleased with it since day 1, but that did not stop me from tinkering. I happened to be reading through PH about 5 years ago and came across a person that was so unhappy with his Yoder YS640 that he posted "The first person to show up and take this grill can have it for free". I immediately sent the owner a private message telling him I would gladly take off his hands. The grill was located about 5 hours from where I lived at the time and so the very next morning I got up early and drove 5 hours each way to get the grill. The grill cost me about $150 in gas and a most of a Sunday. Then I called up Yoder and asked if they could send me a manual because the previous owner did not have it. The people at Yoder asked how I got the grill and I told them and sent them a link to thread. Yoder sent me new fans, new chimney, a new wiring harness (originally had 1 fan but the current crop of Yoders had 2 fans) and something to update the firmware, at no charge. It was everything needed to bring my grill up the current spec, which was about 2 years after the date the grill was built. All free to me... I could not believe it.

Lucky guy.

I had some grills down for maintenance, dirty, or something else related to my 2015 moved at one point in 2017.  Someone on PH had a used Blazn Grand Slam for $300.  My road trip was about half of yours to pick it up one weekend.  Brought it home and it worked great.  Spent about $30 to put new wheels on it since then.  It has since become my favorite grill to make chicken wings on.

Crazy stories about how we end up with some of these things.

which brings us to the next question.  If I were to upgrade ... do I sell the 8 year old Traeger Texas, minor rust (my fault actually) warped, upgraded, parts replaced and perfectly functional?  Or do I keep it for backup?   I'm thinking about the latter.  I don't think I could let my first love go for $400.    I only need the double capacity once a year (Thanksgiving).

I would keep it, if you have the room and still has lots of life left in it..Give it a good look-over before deciding.

Can serve as aback-up for a big cook or if the new pit fails.

Back yard improvement: Two pits look better than one.

Always have a backup, IMO, especially if you like it.  If you need the money, then that's another story.

I was given a brand new Tailgater and wasn't impressed with it.  Found a GMG DB on CL that needed work and got it really cheap, not free but cheap for me, and enjoy it.  I use the Traeger for high heat cooks and the GMG for low and slow.

Just one, a MAK 2*; I gifted my previous smoker, a Traeger Jr., to a co-worker. That was such a tough smoker to get to know, but the experience really helped me learn how to smoke and showed me what features I found important in a grill.

My first is a gmg db.  It gave me enough confidence that i wanted to do a backyard comp.  Which led me to getting the gmg dc so I had a dedicated chicken cooker.  I was never happy about space so I got a bgw GI. Which was going to be used in another backyard comp. But i couldn't do it because of my ex's health issues.

Two Traegers.  Pro 22 for low and slow (smoking) and a Lil’ Tex with GMG griddle/pizza attachment for griddle, searing, & pizza (wood-fired).  I bought the Lil’Tex second hand (in sad shape) to make a cold smoker, but everything worked on it, so I went the other way.

2 cookers.  GMG JB wifi and a Rectec 680-rt.
Routinely have 30 people including children at my place.

GMG was my first.  Love the wifi and use it 90% of the time.

Rectec was acquired via trade.  Traded my Saffire grills Kamado for it.

Hope to get a fast eddy cooker in the future with huge capacity.

I currently have three:

2 Traeger Lil Tex Elites
FireCraft Q-450

I had one of the Traegers and my mother in law had the second one.  When she went to heaven, she couldn't take the Traeger with her so I brought it home.  She loved cooking on the Traeger and encouraged me to cook on it when we visited.  That experience got me interested in having one of my own.

I bought the FireCraft about a month ago.  Both of the Traegers are in the neighborhood of 7 and 8 years old, and I found myself doing a lot of mechanical work to keep them running:  hot rods, auguer motors, controllers, and RTDs have been replaced in one of both of them.  Adding the FireCraft to my back yard has made cooking fun again because I am no longer concerned with the operability of my primary cooker.

GMG DC and a FEC100
Crockett and Tubbs :)
DC for small and/or hot cooks
FEC100 for the big long smokes
DC is perfect for 2 chickens, 3-4 pork tenderloins where the FEC100 does all the big stuff like pork butt, brisket and a whack load of ribs

You need the right tool for the job. I only have one pellet smoker but I frequently have more than one grill going at the same time.

I have a small Weber Q2100 gas grill and two Weber kettles. They all have their strengths, though it has been awhile since I have started up the kettles.
