Cost for pellets?
« on: November 05, 2017, 03:16:26 PM »

What are you all paying generally for pellets, and what brand? Amazon seems close to $1 per pound. My local Walmart has some Pitboss for a little over .50 a pound.

What do you all generally pay per pound?

Sportsmans warehouse has GMG 28# for $15 and 20# Camp Chef for $13.  Trager and Cabela's  for $19 per 20#.  I haven't looked anywhere else yet.

Menards has PitBoss 40lbs/$19.  They also sell hardwood heating pellets 40lbs for $4.  I used these a couple times this weekend and I'm impressed.

I found a local Lumberjack dealer on Craig's List selling 40lb bags for $16.

I get Q pellets or Lumberjack locally in Vegas at a wood supply store.  Normally $.85 lb no tax.  20 lb bags.  Love to go bulk with them but I have no one else in the Vegas area.  If I buy 4 bags or more it's $.75 lb.  That's not a bulk order though....

Not a lot of hardwood trees around here.... :'(

I might look into these heating hardwood pellets.

Over here in Australia we are not spoilt for choice and hence the price is up there

We pay AU $40 for a bag of GMG pellets

With exchange that is about US $30 a bag.

What are the GMG bags worth over your way.

There are plenty of folks in the LV area that have pellet grills. Have you contacted the big Lumberjack supplier about a group buy?

I'd be shocked if you could find hardwood heating pellets. There's no market for them in the west because transportation costs are too high and softwood pellets work fine for heating.

I'm paying $0.37/lb for Lumberjack delivered to No. California, group buy.

I always have an eye out for good pellet prices. You never know where they come from.

My 1st couple bags were Q pellets from Amazon. About a buck a lb. if I recall. Then Chris got hooked up with Amazon and they were selling his CookinPellets for $25.00 a bag. A LOT of us loaded up before Amazon got wise. I think I ordered about 240 lbs at that price. Prime shipping of course. And then there was that time he gave away a 40 lb bag with a donation to an animal charity!  Chris is truly a class act.

My most recent purchase of any qty was from Walmart when they had PitBoss brand comp blend for about fiddy cents a lb.

Since then, I have order some specialty blends from Chis at the dollar a lb price, but I consider these unusual purchases.

I suggest anyone to load up when the price is right, sit back and bask on a job well done, and strike when the iron is hot the next time. I personally can't tell much difference in one brand to another. To me, the biggest difference is in the ash left in my pit and the bag. Those are subjective.

I always check Amazon as I'm a Prime member. They currently have Louisiana Grill pellets at a good price.
