Adding tiles to a smoker?
« on: December 22, 2017, 04:36:00 PM »

I have a Fast Eddie PG500 that I love.
When we moved I left my Tregger behind and got a PG500.

Love it. Much better machine....

Anyway, i have thought about lining the inside with unglazed tiles to add some thermal mass to help even out some of the temperature swings.  Most of my smoking is done at the 225-250 range, low and slow... and even with the controller tweaked, it swings a lot.
Any thoughts on putting tiles wherever they will fit to add mass?

Interesting concept. If you try it please post the results and any observations.

What are the controller settings when you get these temperature swings?

I have my LHT/HHT set to 10/25 when i am in the low range of 225.

My controller is one of the newer one with 3ranges with independent LHT/HHT values for each range.

I will see highs in the 285 range... I tried going lower, but had flameouts...

Huge swing for that setting.  Have you talked with your dealer or the factory?
