Pit Boss Pellets at Walmart Stores
« on: February 06, 2018, 11:44:33 PM »

Today I called the Support Center for Louisiana / Pit Boss-Grills and spoke to a very informative service rep that confirmed Danson Louisiana Grills owns Pit Boss. There pellets for both Louisiana and Pit Boss are all the made in the same plant just in different bags.
They have made an agreement with Walmart stores to provide an exclusive line of Pit Boss Pellets for Walmart in different colored bags. You should see some or all of these flavors coming to your local Walmart stores soon.

She  told me that the base of all there pellets is Maple. The mix percentages of each flavor are propriatary. Having said that she did tell me that my percentages were very close. So take if for what it's worth.

Competition Blend in blue bag is 50% Maple 25% Hickory 25% Cherry (as most of us know.) 40#
Hickory in a blue bag is 60% Maple  40% Hickory in 20# / 40# bags
Mesquite in an orange bag is 60% Maple 40% Mesquite 20# / 40# bags
Apple in a Green bag is 60% Maple / 40% Apple in 20# / 40# bags
Fruit Blend in a Red bag is Maple / Apple / Cherry in 30# bags only
Classic Blend in a Maroon bag is Pecan / Hickory / Mesquite in 30# bag only

I hope this answers many of your quesions about their pellets. If you have any further questions please call 1 877-303-3134.

Thanks for the info.  I want 100% hickory, so I will buy something else.

I have used Lumberjack 100% hickory with good success.

Just saw Pit Boss 40# bags of comp blend in Lowe's today for $19.95.  Pretty good price.  Never used them before.  Any comments about the quality?

They are ok.  I don't get much smoke flavor out of them.

Many Years ago I participated in a taste test with different meats cooked on different pellet rigs using different flavor pellets. I don't think any of us could tell which pellets were used on what meats. Could smell or taste a flavor. At least I know I couldn't.

Ever since then I have used pellets I could get at a good price as local as I could and that smelled nice while burning. Most pellets used alder base woods like Bear Mountain that was available to me near where I worked. I have used 100% flavors when I could get in on group buys. 100% Oak burned very hot in my rig for burgers, dogs, and pizza. I only cook steak over lump charcoal.
Having found Pit Boss with maple base wood at Walmart is a huge bonus to me at least. Price is everything since I have retired. Pit Boss works great on turkey & chicken parts that I mostly eat now. The Comp. blend smells very nice but I do like the Maple Hickory smell best. So do my neighbors when I cook on the weekends. They always ask what I am cooking. That's my opinion.
Happy smoking.

End of summer they have clearance at some walmarts for as low as $2.50 per 40lbs bag.  But usually about $5.00

I cannot get them at that price.  I called a walmart near me and said they had a pallet for $5.00 each bag.  Told them Ill take the entire pallet.  When I got there it was on their computer system but couldnt locate it.  It was at their warehouse.  I was bummed.

Friend in Basking Ridge NJ found them for $2.50 a bag.  He only got 10 bags   :(

Hmm never thought about calling them. I wonder if they would ship the pallet to the store for you?

I might try some if I can pick them up below $10. I like a little more smoke so I tend to use 100% hickory and 100% cherry mixed in here and there (more ash than oak/flavor wood blends, but to me, the smoke output and taste is noticeably better over a mixed wood. But Iíll try them if cheap enough
