Your Ultimate Grilled Cheese Sandwich Idea
« on: May 21, 2018, 07:33:09 AM »

Bentley and I were having a discussion over on the competition board and it spawned an idea to see what would your ideal Grilled Cheese Sandwich be? No pics are necessary, this is not a contest and there are no prizes except the admiration of your fellow Pellet Fan.
Rules: Only 1 Rule your are limited to only 6 ingredients.

Ive posted about it here and there over the years. I've never been without it in my pantry for close to ten years. It's really really good for so many uses. It's in my snack mix recipe. Anytime I make eggs. On top of focaccia bread before baking. Roast chicken for chicken salad.

Penzys has a similar version (forget what they call theirs) with salt, but it's just not the same. Chicago spice house version is no salt, and is always the version I buy.

Edit: just looked up ingredients. Spice house website says it does have salt. I don't even notice it. The penzeys version was noticably salty.

This is not nearly as good as yours, but we love to bake European style bread and use pimento and cheese as the filling for delicious grilled cheese. In fact, we made some just yesterday.

I love rustic breads, if I had a bakery i'd need a semi to transport myself around town  :rotf:

2 pieces of Texas Toast
Butter
80/20 ground chuck
6 slices of American Cheese
Bacon
Salt & Pepper mixture to season ground chuck.

Basically two grilled cheese sandwiches but you put the burger between the two sandwiches and 3 pieces of cheese on the top side of the burger and 3 pieces below the burger.  Now closed burger joint had it on their menu. It was awesome, i was able to finish 3 of the 4 times I had it. They also had a glazed donut burger to that was really good.

I have never made this, but may have to experiment and see if I like this combo -- crusty french bread (sliced) and slathered with butter on the outside, brie cheese, thin slices of Granny Smith apples, and light sprinkle of chopped walnuts on the inside and all grilled to perfection.  In my mind it sounds good -- in practice it will probably be horrid!

I'm guessing you might be their only living former customer serving those items. However, they both sound intriguing.

Just a tip I picked up (I think from Serious Eats) about grilling both sides of the bread. Adds extra crunch and flavor.
