Are they really 'private'? Can mods/admin get into them and change the content?

Not that I know of and not that I know how.  I guess I will let Bentley and LSFS post on whether they know if that can be done.

I will preface my comments by saying I would never knowingly participate ( I mean Own, Moderate or be a Member of) in a site that could read a persons PRIVATE Messages!

I will hopefully answer your question.  And hopefully my word is worth something, as this would be a reason for me to LEAVE A SITE..  I will then send a email to LSFS and ask him as our resident technical advisor to confirm or deny...and tell us the tech aspect.

I do not know if our SMF version allows for it or not.  I know if it does, I do not know how to use it.

If it does allow for it to be done, I will ask LSFS if it can be deleted.  Outside of that.  All I can do is give you my word I would never use it, and I would ask Kristin and Adam to do the same.  And you would have to base your use of it on those statements!

I want it known...I take this very seriously.  This is the email I just sent to LSFS...

Would you please post in this thread exactly what we as admins can or cannot do regarding this PM question.  And if SMF has this ability, can it be deleted?

Your a straight forward to the point give your word kind of guy, no worries from me as I know the answer. But some other sites I'm not too sure, they might use their power for evil.

I know most of you folks don't know me personally, so maybe  this means nothing.  But all I can say is I would never look at someone's pm's even if I had the ability to.  "Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you."

I will reiterate what Bentley and Meredith said, even if we had the ability to none of us would exploit it.  Luckily SMF does NOT have a mechanism for reading PRIVATE Messages:

I never once gave that subject a thought.  I trust this site and the people who run it whole heartedly.  You treat people the way you want to be treated and be upfront and honest and there is never anything to worry about.

Just keep doing what your doing and everything will be fine.

Understood, and thank you.  It was still good for Members to know for this site.

It wasn't all that necessary for LSFS to investigate further, but it's fine that he did.
I feel that I know both Bentley and Kristin well enough to state that their very word alone is enuff.
