Never heard of Okra on a sandwich (if that's what it is).

That is giardinera - hot peppers, celery, carrots, cauliflower all chopped small and in an oil.  What you thought was okra is the hot peppers.

I have never even considered trying it.  I doubt I will remember, but if I do the next time I make one I will have to try it.  To me it would seem like it would make it more like a meatball sandwich, as silly as that might sound!

Some places ladle it over the top of the sandwich under the cheese.  Others mix the sauce in with the meat.
