  • I use 2 aluminum pans in my drip drawer.  Works great and easy to change when needed.

  • I do the aluminum pans in the drawers using Walmart cake pan size.  I rarely scrape the grill but will use the pressure washer on it once or twice a year since I don't foil the drip tray on any of my grills.

+1 I also sprinkle a little baking soda in them to absorb grease for fatty cooks

  •  NO! It's just so easy to clean.

  • I may try to foil the drip tray. and see how it goes. It was definitely easier when I did this on the GMG. I did a large salmon the other day and was oily everywhere and a pain to clean up.

I'm about to do 8 racks of ribs...any tips for this first "real" smoke?

Having a family get together this weekend and gonna smoke them then vacuum seal. I'll prob reheat via sous vide and then sauce and a quick grill or smoke when it's time to eat.

  • If you have the Elite and the upper racks, you may be able to put them all on the upper racks and put an empty full size aluminum pan on the first rack to catch the grease.  Someone on here had been using that method on other grills and I have done it on the Memphis Elite occasionally.  It does help to keep things clean with minimal effort.

8 racks of ribs will be pretty tight I would think.  Probably have some overlap and need to rotate periodically.

I foil mine, and like McJagger, I put baking soda in the Left/Right drip trays. Center one just gets ashes and pellets.

Just be aware, that if your temp is above 500ish, the foil will melt.

  • I used to foil my GMG Jim Bowie, which was a pain because the drip tray was difficult to remove and replace.  When I got my Advantage, I decided to try not foiling and it has been great. I just hold the insert and the tray over a garbage can and scrape away.
I, too, use the upper racks for cooking when possible, with a foil tray underneath, sometimes just fold HD foil into a pan to catch drippings.

I liked my Jim Bowie, I love my Advantage!

  • Had to go back to the beginning to figure out what you were talking about!  Thanks!
