Davy Crockett igniter not getting hot
« on: May 23, 2019, 05:42:38 PM »

The igniter on my Davy Crockett stopped getting hot. So I ordered a new ignitor and it still is not getting hot. I'm thinking it is the control board. I am wondering if anybody else has any suggestions as to what it might be.

JB,

I've had the same problem.  I also replaced the igniter and I can make it go if I heat it up twice (run through the start-up cycle, then turn off and run it again).

Mine works fine with a 12v battery attached so I think maybe my AC power supply might either be failing, underpowered, or something in the wiring.

Troubleshooting Tip: If the wiring has some strands broken and creating the extra resistance, it might feel hotter in those spots when it is under load.

Also, you might also see whether the contacts in the power socket on the DC are clean.  Sometimes a light sand and tinning with solder can help.

I assume the power source is valid and the rest of the unit has power.  You might ask customer service if there is a way to plug the igniter into a different connection on the unit, but I don't think they are like the Traegers you can do that!  I guess if you have a power tester and know that resistance stuff and how to check that you could, but I do not know how to do that!

I had an extra controller that I was going to hook up to see if that helps.  When I went to remove the wiring harness I found that there must have been a short because it is melted where the ignitor wires come out.  It looks like I will need a new board and wiring harness.

Just got off the phone with GMG CS.  Even though the grill is well outside of warranty they are sending me a wiring harness free and a board half off.

Igniter went out on my Davy Crockett, GMG CS was great because it was out of warranty sent new igniter. I must say that the YouTube video GMG has doesn't depict how to change igniter very well.
