  • A Fail, but Great Data!

Made the wrapper from scratch, will leave that to the experts next time and buy in store.  Filling needs work, but I knew that going in, I was more interested in learning how to roll and how long to cook.  Filling was Napa Cabbage, carrots, onions and ground pork, white pepper and salt.

Next round will be above ingredients with vermicelli bean thread noodle, bean sprouts, Spring onions, Oyster Sauce, Thai Mushroom Oyster sauce, and chicken soup base powder per CookingWithHua.

Also made the plum sauce, half fail.  To much vinegar and allspice does not substitute for 5 spice...

You can see in the cross section, my wrappers were so thick, even 6 minutes in 350° oil did not cook it!

That's my beef with almost all egg rolls, not enough protein.  But those look pretty good for 1st timer.

  • I wouldn't eat them (I don't like most of those ingredients) but they did look colorful.

  • Wrapper makes a big difference, in color and in texture.  This was a good Spring Roll.

  •  Wish I could taste them. They don't look too bad at all.

  • The 2nd ones were quite tastie.  Moe spices and salt enhanced the filling and the wrappers were 100% better!

    Ah, good to better.

  • Both of them look good but cut open the 2nd ones look really good.
I love egg rolls but anymore fried stuff often times haunts my belly.
    If the grease/oil isn't clean, I have a heck of a time.
I would give those a go though.

too close to home!   No more IPA's, no more fried food, caution on anything even remotely spicy, what's next?  No more brisket, no salt?  oh the humanity!

We have one and that’s how we do foods like that, not quite the real deal though.

  • Those rolls look beautiful!

But---once again Bar-B-Lew and me are on the same page.
