The Protect-O-Matic
« on: December 14, 2019, 11:14:11 AM »

I found this on Craigslist in August for $35 and got it from a lovely lady.  She said they got it as a gift and used it twice and it had been in the garage.  I have no idea when these were made because it is all steel and is very heavy.  I'm a sucker for anything with O-Matic in the title and anything that's really shiny, so she had me on both.  I've used it three time and really like how well it works.  I cut some middle and top round for jerky the first time I used it and it was a little too frozen.  I was afraid I'd ruined the blade until I finished putting it back together after cleaning it and realized I had a cut on a finger that I never felt.  I was able to cut a three pound pork belly I had cured for bacon with ease and it went through six pounds of deer meat for jerky that was frozen just right in a short amount of time.  It comes apart almost completely and I think I could wash the whole thing if I took the motor off.  It's small enough to fit in our big farm sink.  Here's the Protect-O-Matic!

It's also an Eletr-O-Matic apparently.

I'll post some more pics of it if I get these to work right.  I don't want go past the size limit and don't really know what I'm doing since I rarely post pics.

Back to the drawing board!  I guess I held my phone in portrait for the first three and need to take pics in landscape mode.  Here's some more.  I'll try to figure out how to fix the ones that are off by 90 degrees.

I tried rotating the bottom two before posting and they still came out wrong, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong.  I guess I'm doing good to get them posted.

Any suggestions on how to rotate the pics correctly?  Maybe I can edit the posts to get the correct orientation if I get some expert help.

I remember my Mother having one of these growing up. Not sure if it is sill around or not. What i remember about it is how the motor would smell while it was being used. Like it was going to burn up, but it kept on going.

It had that smell when I first used it with the meat that wasn't thawed enough.  The manual says to use Vaseline on the gears, so that might be part of it getting hot from the friction.  That's just a guess though.

All the photos are correct in reply #2, the others are hit and miss.
