Thermometer Probes
« on: August 18, 2020, 03:42:27 PM »

I installed a Savannah Stoker on my CampChef yesterday and went through the calibration steps.
That got me to thinking about the accuracy of my thermometers and their probes.
So this morning I brought them into the house to test, and found a couple that don't fit anything.
Don't fit Thermoworks Smoke or the ChefAlarm, or Maverick Remote thermometers, or the jacks on the Memphis and CampChef..
Only thing I can think of is I bought them as spares and never checked them.
So I have two brand new heavy duty probes anybody can have if they can use them.
Second pic shows a comparison of the Thermoworks Smoke jack (bottom) and the unknown on the top.
Third pic shows difference in cable size.

If I am correct, the "unknown" is for Traeger, most but not all. The stereo jack gives it away.  If you have an ohmmeter, check the resistance. Not 100% sure, but could be ~ 1K ohms +/- @ room temp.

Haven't checked it, but a good many are the 1K ohm variety.
My Memphis is.

Not 1K, about 85 ohms.  Same as the Smoke.
Got to thinking I probably got them from Thermoworks.
Maybe I can find it in an old email, or on their website.

EDIT:  Can't find where I ever bought them.  Not on ThermoWorks site.

Did find this though. I guess we can thank Covid-19 for the inspiration to develop it.

Not sure how I never saw that thread.
I did buy one, get it tomorrow.
Going to send to my grandson.
His son (my great grandson) is a little over a year old.
So with cold/flu season looming in the near future, I thought they could use it.

Not sure how I never saw that thread.

I sympathize.  Every once in a while I stumble across a particularly good thread that I've missed.

We have a Wand.  Marcia's birthday dinner is at our house in two days.  I told her that I want to check each guest's temperature as they arrive.  She thinks I'll just reinforce my reputation for being socially awkward.

You're just evaluating it to make sure it is operating properly.  ;D

If it is hot outside when they arrive, apparently, their temp could be high.  I don't know whether he is right or wrong, but Fauci says he has seen his temp be higher than normal when he gets to work on hot days giving false read he has a fever.  After a few minutes inside, his temp is in an acceptable range not showing a fever.
