Taking trip to Reno
« on: March 02, 2021, 06:26:10 PM »

We are going to go to Reno for our annual trip.  We were going to go to Tahoe also but I think that is out.  Where do you like to stay in the Reno area that's you favorite? We don't mind a drive maybe within 2 hours of Reno.  We don't know the area that well and are hoping for a gem!

I have only been 3 times.  1st was a Fresno State vs UNR football game and stayed at the Atlantis Casino Resort strictly for price.  Very nice, but just a casino type room.  That was in and out.  Other 2 times was the Rib Burn in Sparks cooking food on GMG models for sales tents.  Stayed at the Nugget towers.  Again, nice rooms, but just casino rooms.  Sorry I don't have any detailed info for you.  Working the days I was there for GMG and to burnt out at night to do anything else.  And gambled after the game and got up and left next morning, so no intel on city and surrounding area on that trip!

Sorry, no hotels, but Triple D visited this place:  https://www.goldnsilverreno.com  I have come to not be a big fan of the places he goes, but this one did look good.

I never thought of Reno as a destination. As mentioned, Tahoe is nice. The Eastern Sierra (i.e. Owen's Valley), Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite National Park, Death Valley, are what I would think of as destinations in the, broadly speaking, general area. So it really depends on what you like to do. Nevada is casinos and backcountry. I can pass on the casinos but some of the backcountry is hard to beat, if you like desert, and I do. I have stayed in a lot of casinos visiting Nevada, but mostly just to sleep and maybe catch a buffet, while out hiking or climbing.
