Effect of Wind on Long Cooks

How much wind is too much for a low, slow cook? Or is it any problem at all?

I've never had a problem with the P&S but my Traeger Tailgater didn't like the wind much.  You just don't see as much smoke.  Or at least I don't.

Don't think I've cooked in high wind, but I don't think the Memphis would have any problems.
Unsure about the CampChef.  It is single wall and smoke leaks out all over.

 Depends on the pit.. Memphis Pro: Wind & cold no problem temp wise. Same fast warm up & consistent temps.  However pellet consumption is affected. 

 Older Traeger, L'il Tex,  didn't do well in the cold & wind made it worse.

I’m in the consistent temperature and pellet consumption camp.  The Fast Eddy PG500 isn’t insulated but the controller seems to deal with the additional fire requirement.  Smoke flavor seems to be about the same.

Only way for wind to blow into my Memphis is at the back where the smoke exits. I suspect just making sure the back does not face the wind would help. On the other hand, a fast wind flowing over the top could create enough Venturi effect to draw the heat out faster. Is that a conundrum? Well it ain't fun cooking in high wind anyhow!

IMO I fall back on the old standby answer: It depends.  By that I mean in cold weather it may take longer to cook low and slow as the wind might lower the temp and then maybe not.  If the wind impacts the temp I suspect you will use more pellets as the grill works to maintain a consistent temp.

It gets pretty windy here, but I've never had a problem smoking on windy days. Of course, all of my pits are on wheels, so I just move them out of the wind as much as possible.

Since I live amongst a bunch of corn and soy bean fields it is very windy here consistently. The heaviest wind days just raise my pellet consumption is what I have found. I try to shield my smoker somewhat with the house acting as a wind break, but that only does so much.
