How have you replaced the spring legs on the DC?

Looking to make some changes and want to get rid of the little spring legs on my DC. I have it on a cart currently but working on moving it to a different one and thinking I want to make something to replace them.

I mounted 4 2" pipe caps to the cart and set the springs into the caps. They have worked well until I had a grease fire where two of them partially melted. should have used iron instead of PVC. As soon as mobility improves, I'll change solution to spring problem. I'll follow this thread closely.

I think they screw in don't they?  You could put bolts in there instead of the springs.  They are probably metric thread.  Or someone might make a replacement leg kit.
