Title: Square Dot from Thermoworks
Post by: okie smokie on July 25, 2022, 10:28:08 PM
I ordered it today. The ability to get averaged temps over a 15 minute span did it for me. This will allow me to adjust temps for low/slow cooks and get the actual temp I want.

Using your investment & time, I am sure we'll have a full review.

Pun aside, I am curious to see your results & how you deal with them.

Pretty satisfied with BS temps now but needed a new oven temp probe as the old Maverick has bit the dust. The average temp concept to me is ideal and should allow more accurate adjustments for long cooks. Also, plan to test kitchen oven as well, since I often place crutched items there to finish off (and save pellet waste).

Looking forward to your feedback.
Sorry for the late feedback. Bottom line: The Square Dot is a great tool for getting accurate "average"  temps so you can either adjust your set temps to get the real temp  you want, or, if available to adjust the control to provide the correct temp that you have set. There are two probes. #1 is for monitoring food, and #2 is for monitoring grill temp.  You can set #2 for current temps, or you can set for average temps. The average is a 15 minute average, and upgrades the readout every minute after the first 15.  The Square D is certified within 1 degree. I found it easy to use, reliable and consider the $49 price reasonable. Comes in several colors.

thanks, Okie.  Thermoworks has had several new product releases in the last six months or so.  I will have to see what kind of holiday sales they have and buy a few of the new toys.

I bought one a while back and found out that my home oven averages 354° when set to 350°.

Thanks okie.  I hadn’t seen that one before.  The avg temp thing is cool.
