  • Took a few shots with my Flir Thermal Cam while the RT was running at 450.

I was using 4 Grill Grate panels.  Unfortunately the thermal cam only goes up to 302F.

I definitely have a hot spot in the right front.

  • Hah that is pretty awesome looking. Now I need one done on mine!

  • Really interesting.  It might be telling to set it at smoking temperature, 225° or whatever, and see how even it is.  It could be a replacement for the biscuit test.

  • That is pretty cool. Would love to see what it looks like at 225 degrees.

Now, that is something else!   Well done... It would be interesting to see how different pits compare.

  • Next time I do a low and slow cook I’ll take some more pics.

  • Am I seeing correctly?  4 grill grates on the middle & right and front right of pit is hotter then the rest of GG?
  • #9 by Ross77 on 01 May 2018
  • Yes. I have 4 grates starting from the right. So the right front hot spot is a GG. The chicken breast I had in that spot definitely cooked faster.

I also don’t remember how long the GG had been on when I took the picture.

What would be interesting is to see if there is a difference with a downdraft hood.

  • Those are great shots Ross. I to am interested to see shots at a 225 run. Thanks for sharing your findings.

  • As promised new images at 225. This was about 15 minutes after startup.

You can clearly see the hotspot at 290 on the right. It’s 230 near the temp probe on the left.

  • THAT IS BEAUTIFUL!
  • #13 by leppolite on 04 May 2018
  • Very nice, I will have to see if that same corner is hot on mine with some testing. I assume our 680s will be somewhat similar for hotspots.

  • Here we are after 30 minutes. Temps have evened out. Hot spot is now right above the firepot.
