FIREBOARD probe extension
« on: January 23, 2019, 12:15:35 PM »

hello all,

I've got a question for anyone running a FIREBOARD thermometer

my initial question was if it would work using some sort of an extension cord on the probes
then I noticed they sell a 6 foot probe extension (but it's only 6 feet long)  https://www.fireboard.com/shop/probe-extension-6-ft/

does anyone know (or think) it would be ok to run the probes on a longer extension?
(maybe 10-20ft)  would the extra length add enough resistance to make a difference?

I cook with a group that often has 5 or 6 grills going at the same time
it would be awesome to be able to monitor all of the grills at the same time

btw,
I already sent a message to FIREBOARD as well

Thanks in advance
Russ

Thank you for putting this in appropriate section, greatly appreciated...but I am slowly becoming a realist!

I hope what I am going to do is OK, we will put it in the General Section, (as I still believe that that is the only section for many) and see if you get a few responses.  Then if you do, I will move it back to this section for latter reference for all!

What you might try is: Do an ice-bath test (32º) using the standard probe. Compare the results to that of doing the same test with the long extension in place...I would think there would be very little

difference... An other factor to consider is the connection. If it isn't good, the resistance may go up changing the reading.   ;)
