  • Went on a little field trip today. I discovered a local BBQ pellet manufacturer. They are about 35 miles from my house.

Au Sable Valley hardwood pellets are made from Northern Michigan hardwoods. The main business is a sawmill and they got into pellets as a way to use up their sawdust. I talked with a guy from there briefly.  He said there are extra things that they do for treating the machines for food grade pellets, other than what they do for heating pellets. However he didn't go into a lot of detail. He did say it was not required, but they had their own standards that they went by.

A local product at $9.99 for 40lbs. What's not to like? I am looking forward to trying them.

  •  That's a great find!  Do you know the makeup ( wood species) of the pellets?  It's usually listed in volumetric descending order..  By looks & description, they should give you a good cook.
