Weber Q1000 for searing
« on: July 27, 2018, 11:50:10 AM »

Does anyone have experience with Weber Q grills?

I sold my Weber Spirit and now I kind of miss it.....

I was thinking about getting a smaller grill for searing. I’ve been using my 680 for low and high heat cooking. The Grill Grates help but the amount of time to warm up is beginning to get annoying.  I also like to reverse sear steaks and it would be nice to have a separate grill ready to go at 500 to sear.

I briefly considered the RT Bullseye but the reviews from members here aren’t that great.

Im tempted by the Q1000 on Amazon for $170

My daughter has one used for camping..Well made and good looking. Webber quality too. BUT- searing is marginal. Or more politely put, it will sear in a pinch. A tad slow heating up at the top end.

If you can relate, it's a 12,000BTU unit.

I love my little Q-1200 for searing. I use grill grates on the flat side. Better flavor than pretty grill marks.

Does it heat up pretty fast?  I found a 3200 model with the stand for $100 on craig's list.

Mine takes about 20 minutes. I would not pass on that 3200, great buy for quality grill. Gives you some more space for things like pork shoulder steaks, smoked and seared that are my favorite..

So I asked the guy if he could send a pic of the inside and his response: "Good grief, it's a BBQ either you want it or you don't"

Well I guess I don't want it now.

Haha...I agree with you. Either he wants to sell it or he doesn't.

Not much to fear, stainless burner, cast iron grate. Burner cleans easy with a small wire brush. Scrape the crud down into the disposable pan. Regulators are inexpensive if required.

It's a 40 min drive one way so just wanted to make sure there isn't something obviously wrong.

I don't care for his attitude so I'm out.

I ended up finding a Char-Broil Patio Bistro for $20 including the half full tank. It’s in very good shape and doesn’t look like it was used much. I turned it on to burn everything off and it got up to 500 in less than 10 min.

It will come in handy for reverse searing and quick cooks.

It was a lucky guess on my part....

I used this for the first time tonight to reverse sear some burgers.  I smoked them for 1 hour and then transferred to the Char-Broil for about 5 minutes total.  It really sped up the cooking process as it heats up to 500 very quickly.  Much faster than pulling and waiting for my RecTec to get up to temp.

All in all a heck of a find for $20.  A good tool for the arsenal.
