  • We are now under a week until the Tide's first game, so I have officially changed my avatar to reflect the team which will dominate this year.

Looks like a few good games for opening weekend -- Washington v. Auburn, Michigan v. Notre Dame.  Glad to see college football start up again!

  • Although I am a big college football fan in general, had to mention I was able to spend the day in Annapolis MD today, and a little while on the Navel Academy campus...wow, very impressive, and to Rawhide's point (well almost) although still several months away, they are already completely focused on the Army / Navy game. I am 100% sure same over at Westpoint too. Not to steal the thread, but what great kids I was able to talk with from USNA today.

Ok as far as my CFB season?  I am a big RU (Rutgers University) fan, and pay to be a University of Maryland fan ( my son attends UMD), so gonna be a long season for me.  Gotta root and say, let's go B1G and "Go Army, beat Navy"!  Grew up an army brat my whole life as my dad was career army...haha.

  • I'm a Chapel Hill native (Tar Heel ticket holder) and a University of Colorado alum.  My avatar refers to Ralphie the Buffalo that runs onto the field before Colorado football games.  I'm pumped for another season to get started.  Go Buffs!  Go Heels!

Ralphie is a girl  ;) (and I claim this screen name with pride lol!)

There have been female handlers as well.  You have to be a really fast runner with experience dealing with larger animals.  Here's a 1 minute video of the handler tryouts.

  • Neat video, but it seems to me that if Ralphie is a female, she should be Ralphine. :pig:

  • Dogs open up with the Vandals...what a name! *  We then get University of Minnesota, I have no idea if we can play with any school in the Big 10, I guess I am gonna get to find out in about 18 days!

    What is a Vandal?

Don’t use your dictionary to find Idaho’s definition of a Vandal. No, Idaho’s student-athletes go by a name earned nearly a century ago by a basketball team coached by Hec Edmundson, whose teams played defense with such intensity and ferocity that sports writers said they “vandalized” their opponents. The mark made by that 1917 team went far deeper than wins and losses on the court. In 1917, Harry Lloyd “Jazz” McCarty – a writer for the student newspaper, the Argonaut – subtly tagged the team with a new nickname in a pregame write-up: “The opening game with Whitman will mark a new epoch in Idaho basketball history, for the present gang of ‘Vandals’ have the best material that has ever carried the ‘I’ into action.” McCarty’s indirect suggestion stuck. By 1921, McCarty and Edward Maslin Hulme, the dean of the College of Liberal Arts, succeeded in their push to have Vandals officially adopted as the nickname for Idaho teams.

Nothing against you Kristin, but if LSU wins only one game you know which one I want.  Living in Alabama and having several good friends that turn into the worse obnoxious Elephant fans there is is not fun.

  • ruebenray, you need to be just as obnoxious back.  Come on man, it is college football season.  We went to an FSU - USC game at the Coliseum and FSU got whipped.  The USC fans (there are no more obnoxious fans in the world, believe me; they were raised as privileged brats and show it!) were trying to rub it in people's face on the way out.  I waited until we got to an exit tunnel -- where it would reverberate -- and lead a chant of "Who Let the Dogs Out!" -- in their house, after we lost.  Lots of FSU fans joined in and it was deafening.  So we lost, we played well and it doesn't mean we are down and out.

What do coaches say to their players as they leave the field?  Hold your head up, kid, hold your head up.

So when I say "Roll Tide Roll" I expect a "Geaux Tigers" back from you  To me, it is all part of college football. ;D  If you don't believe me, just watch Trooper and my posts!!!

  • A bad 3rd quarter for Dogs D, but I also remember some turn overs.  42-41 Fresno State with 6 minutes to go.

One of the best Football game I have ever attended...Reggie Bush 23 for 294...I think Reggie Bush just scored again right now!

    Score by Quarters     1  2  3  4   Score
    -----------------    -- -- -- --   -----
    Fresno State........  7 14  7 14  - 42       Record: (8-2)
    USC Trojans.........  7  6 28  9  - 50       Record: (11-0)

  • I guess the premier game this weekend is my beloved Huskies vs Auburn. It's a fitting start for the Pac 12 conference.
We go way over there for a 'neutral field' game. How does a game 108 miles from your home stadium count as a 'neutral' field in the heart of the SEC? The closest PAC 12 team we play is against the Beavers and they're 256 miles away.

At least it's on ABC (which I don't have access to). I'd be interested you your take of how the game went.

    Go HUSKIES!
