Has anyone tried buying spices? It seems to be hit or miss

McCormick is in the news with a bunch of other grocery manufacturers with shortages due to increases in demand from more people cooking at home and labor shortages in processing plants and the transportation industries.

Being we have moved to a bigger house than we need (2 of us) I have started to make one of the bedrooms into a butlers pantry.  This is after I added more shelves to the 5' x 5' pantry.  We are slowly buying food, paper goods, water, etc. in bulk to stock up.  My wife wants to start back canning, so we have been buying jars and lids for this.  My freezers are just about full with meat, but I restock it as often as I can.  I have the regular refrigerator/freezer in the house with a chest freezer and another refrigerator/freezer in the garage.  I bought an emergency generator and additional gas cans just in case also.

I did the same about five years ago.  and I keep it stock.  I learnt this from my parents who were children of the depression.

I have always try to have a minimum of 3 months (eating normally) up to 6 months (survival mode) of food in the house.
Obviously some things can't store that long and have to be purchased.
The pandemic taught me one thing, and that was I need to think about non-food items as well for the long term.

We are flush with paper products, so didn't even look for anything like that at Sam's yesterday. Gave the meat dept. a hard pass though, goodness, that stuff's expensive! :o

Does anyone know if the cows have gone on strike? I went to another major food store and still could not find heavy cream.

My local Sam's had some toilet paper in stock so I got another pack.  I am good for a while now after ordering some last week which will be delivered tomorrow.
