Here are the steps to post photos (you can click on the images to enlarge them)
1) Click on "Attachments and other options"
2) Click on "Choose file"
[ Invalid Attachment ]
3) Find your photo, click open or choose
4) To the right of the image name click on "(Insert attachment 1)"
[ Invalid Attachment ]
5) This will paste the image code wherever you left your cursor. You can cut and paste it anywhere in your message.
6) Rinse and repeat for up to 5 images per post. The individual image size is limited to 5mb and 25mb per post
This is what your text should look like before you post it:

For "advanced users" there are more options using [attachment=n][/attachment] bbcode (where n is the number of the attachment in the post,)
o attachment => Show full expanded picture
o attach => Show thumbnail, expandable to full picture
o attachthumb => Show thumbnail ONLY, not expandable
o attachmini => Show thumbnail, expandable to full picture
o attachurl => Shows attachment size, iamge dimensions, and download count; no picture

I've increased the thumbnail size from 300 to 600.

iPhone pictures do that it seems - many times I have to just go into the photo, adjust the size slightly on the iphone/iPad, save and it posts fine.
Typical Apple not playing nice with others.

Edit: looks like it works

Mine were posting upside down from my iPad and iPhone. What I do now is before I post a picture I rotate it 90° & save it and then go back into that same picture and rotate it back to the upright position and resave it and it posts normal, this works for me.

That's probably my problem. These are IPhone pics and I don't remember if I took them in portrait or landscape mode. I'll have to play with it. Thanks.

No problem, nice prime rib by the way

Are there setting in my profile that could stop me from uploading pics?

Now that you got it figured out we want more food pics. ;D

Ok, so I tried posting a pic. When I hit post, the page attempts to load, but all I get a a blank white page. I waited several minutes to see it the site was "thinking", but nothing. When I refresh the page it gives me a error message that it's a double post, or you refreshed the page.(not worded exactly that way).
Any hints. Using a android tablet..

Of course, I'm no expert, but if there is any question of the speed of your Internet connection, that could be the problem especially when uploading from a device. For instance, your photo is quite large at approximately 3.5 mb, which might take a while if you are on a wireless network with your device. As a demonstration, I downloaded your pic, did a quick resize in Irfanview and it is now only 116kb. My Internet connection is slow, and it uploaded quite fast.
I do not know if this your issue, but it might be something to consider.
-
I added the photo. Wanted to see if was an issue with the post, it took it. That was the extent of my help, pretty pathetic huh?

No, not at all! Help is help and goodness knows I have lots to learn - I am good at a couple of things, but curiously those are not the things I actually would like to master ;D

Question along the same line.
How do you delete a photo?
Let's say you upload the wrong photo and post.
How can you go in and edit/remove an attachment/photo?
Thx,
Dan
(I am on my iPad so perhaps I am missing something obvious?)
-
I am hoping you can now go in to your post, look at the attachments, uncheck it and then save and viola, no more attachment!
Edit: Doh...iPhone...no idea, although I would think it is the same...
-
I have been able to do that on my iPhone. You can uncheck. Look farther down.
I had the issue of them coming in sideways. Had to go to my picture in my camera roll then rotate it, save it, go back in a rotate it back to normal - then it would come in properly.

Thx - got it now :)

I am doing something wrong and I am going nuts. I'm missing a simple step in the picture posting process and am at a loss. The problem is getting to the extended long link for the picture. I have the pictures saved in Google Photos, but I cannot figure out how where to go from there. I have read a lot of the tips and "how to" suggestions, but they seem to take it for granted that you are at the proper address. I did post one picture a little while ago. It seems to have be dumb luck because I cannot for the life of me do it a second time. PLEASE HELP!!!
-
Go back & read the very first post on this thread. You no longer have to cut & paste an IMG file. You are posting the picture directly from wherever it is located.
Step 1: click on "Attachments and other options" directly below (shows up below when you start a post).
Step 2: click the "Chose File" button then browse your computer, laptop, photos on your phone.
Step 3: Select the photo to post.
Step 4: Click on "Insert Attachment 1" just to the right of the "Choose File" button
The photo will appear where ever you last left your cursor.

I was also wondering about videos, do you have to use a site like you tube or is there a way to post videos right from your iPad,iPhone, computer etc...

For videos I have always used youtube!
Edit: I guess you all are asking about posting video links directly here...sorry guys, I gotta drawn the line somewhere on bandwidth usage...

Sounds good Bentley, was wondering what I had to do for videos. I will ask my son to set me up a YouTube account ( I'm not smart when it comes to that stuff)

I use Google Picasa to manage my photos (over 50,00 right now) because it is so easy to upload to your Google account. Also, If you keep your photo size to "Best for web sharing" in Picasa, then it does not impact your Google Drive account - essentially unlimited photos. However, Google does not promote Picasa any longer.
Google does not make it easy to post your pics in the forum, but I use it all the time. Here's the somewhat roundabout way of doing it, but definitely worthwhile if you already have your photos in Google.
- Log into photos.google.com (important not to use Google Plus)
- Go to your album, then click on a picture you want to post - make sure your photo or album is public or no one but you will be able to see it.
- Here's the important part - right click the image and open it in a new tab
- Go to that new tab and copy the URL in the address bar
- Return to this site and click the IMG button in the tool bar
- Paste the URL into the URL tag and set the width parameter if you like. Setting the width parameter allows you to display a smaller thumbnail that when clicked, will zoom to full size - see the examples below
This is the IMG tag that appears when you click the first button on the second row
[img][/img]
[img]PASTE YOUR GOOGLE URL HERE (it will be very long)[/img]
Optionally set the width parameter like in this example
[img width=400]PASTE YOUR GOOGLE URL HERE[/img]
Here is an example of one of my Google photos as I would use it in a post (see how long it is?):
[img width=400]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/PiQhv8VSC3xdagE_tTEa9N4agszV-VdVyxmb_pYcMkXA36yh0-ZpOublMp17kVl7bps90xUKQvxpZlYClxqSjC61fPha2ZVs9bmq79iu6uWogVZpIaYbZjz0marc18FTNzFAkzoNbx72j2qNenxNnen1hxG5u2AVYJ-yvgFmkL_Byf4DX0yT5zcJzgE3TEuNoKbMgY--6ynvfKw84-2uTJVawtNaOoAABwXYL9L5YeJWx6wfHtm8dohtIosDppGA11WmKdPkOfhzfZYOcBpR6aNou2mYbP9PpSkuYrNtvSXA0gajFVMoBppK2ONT3481AY0yO_7jUJyJlamWUavpfMpx3kLnk0uuFyKdN_-GPBfdlr8O02XlGVgwXB6ogMv4EGdrVXdU2XaXExny34IHZEfRuN4zU6-1Ww-cRhhktbEsCMsXYYDson6lnztTbEg8xuvzvoup-JWF0iRALtDs5g1R-M8SzCbq0aHIUVhF6no10NOXCQ5SusIU7jN0ijN8b3X2JBZJdcKQE8Y-vkxqYHr8TwR3g60bG0PSWZhPnpxbihxGql2XPULpZaGeDfP6UGyxuA7LBw2Y8v6oUCv-_jpZcXuRRmiwBobWJKBrGw=w1764-h1176-no[/img]

(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/PiQhv8VSC3xdagE_tTEa9N4agszV-VdVyxmb_pYcMkXA36yh0-ZpOublMp17kVl7bps90xUKQvxpZlYClxqSjC61fPha2ZVs9bmq79iu6uWogVZpIaYbZjz0marc18FTNzFAkzoNbx72j2qNenxNnen1hxG5u2AVYJ-yvgFmkL_Byf4DX0yT5zcJzgE3TEuNoKbMgY--6ynvfKw84-2uTJVawtNaOoAABwXYL9L5YeJWx6wfHtm8dohtIosDppGA11WmKdPkOfhzfZYOcBpR6aNou2mYbP9PpSkuYrNtvSXA0gajFVMoBppK2ONT3481AY0yO_7jUJyJlamWUavpfMpx3kLnk0uuFyKdN_-GPBfdlr8O02XlGVgwXB6ogMv4EGdrVXdU2XaXExny34IHZEfRuN4zU6-1Ww-cRhhktbEsCMsXYYDson6lnztTbEg8xuvzvoup-JWF0iRALtDs5g1R-M8SzCbq0aHIUVhF6no10NOXCQ5SusIU7jN0ijN8b3X2JBZJdcKQE8Y-vkxqYHr8TwR3g60bG0PSWZhPnpxbihxGql2XPULpZaGeDfP6UGyxuA7LBw2Y8v6oUCv-_jpZcXuRRmiwBobWJKBrGw=w1764-h1176-no)

Thanks for the help. I read and re-read the first post many times over. After looking at what ZCZ posted, I realized I was reading it wrong. However, when I tried it again I still was having no luck.
When I "Choose File" a short jpg URL is next to it.
Then by "Inserting Attachment": attach=1 is posted in brackets, but no URL.
When looking at the preview, nothing is posted.
Looking at ZCZ's sample picture, it shows: attach=1, msg 5357 in brackets.
For some reason it looks like my picture is not being posted with the attachment.
This is also my first go around with Google Photos. The problem may be how I am saving them. I did try PZ's advice, but it doesn't look like they are letting anyone download Picasa anymore.
My guess is I am missing something fairly basic and hopefully an easy fix. But it has now reached the point where I think the red and green guys along with the nodding pig are in cahoots with each other and are just taunting me (and I'm not to sure the clapping hands guy isn't in with them too)!
-
One last bit of information that may or may not help before I throw in the towel. When I add the URL of the picture to: attach=1 and hit preview, I get a message that states: [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]. Is there something I need to do that will autherize what I post?

Didn't do anything different. This on didn't come out upside down.?.
-
To cure upside down or sideways:
Open the picture you want to post.
Rotate the picture 90 degrees.
Save the picture.
Reopen the picture and rotate it to the proper orientation.
Save the picture.
Go ahead & post the picture.
After I take pictures I intend to post I do the steps above before I do any posting. Whether or not they might be OK as-is. I just do it automatically now. I never have any issues with wrong orientation.

Question: How does one delete a photograph from a topic?
Example:
My original photograph of the illustrious ZCZ came out a bit on the dark side - exposure-wise.
So I went back on my computer and located the photo in my "Pictures". I made a correction, making the photo a bit lighter and then copied it in its folder. I then added the copied photo into the topic and it appears under the original. So far so good,
I am however unable to remove image from my reply. Both remain.
Thus, return to the original question
-
On the upper right hand corner of your post, there should be "quote", "modify", and "remove". Click "modify", and erase the pic you don't want, then update/save the post.
-
I did that
I went to the modify section and deleted Attachment 2.
I then went to save.
Photo remains.
Going back to a Topic post and MODIFY will return you to the rough draft.
But removing the photo attachment and then "SAVE" does not remove the photo.
As near as I can figure out, the only way to remove the photo would be to remove the entire post.

A little background from the 'interwebs'..
HEIC is actually a file format used by Apple for storing images on your iPhones and Macs. Earlier, Apple used the widely popular JPEG format to let you capture and store photos on your machines. Starting in 2017, the company has made HEIC as the default file format for all the images that you capture on your Apple devices.
'.jpg and .png' is the web/cross platform standard..
hope this helps explain things a little better.

If posting from my phone I also resize to the smallest and save. To make sure it is below the maximum size allowed.
^ this is the fastest, easiest way to get an image uploaded as far as format and sizing.. ( In My Honest Opinion)

Photo test–
This is a sample of the code that I can currently copy (July 2024) from my Internet storage site when I use the command to obtain code to use to embed a photograph in an email–
https://1drv.ms/i/s!Ak_mML0wPPnwi4INRSAoTKHXt1To5g?embed=1&width=2551&height=1781
It doesn't embed a photograph. It's simply a link. You'll see the proper photograph if you click on it even though I didn't include the generally required [u r l][/ u r l] commands bracketing it.
This is a sample of the former code that I would copy with the same command–
https://onedrive.live.com/embed?resid=F0F93C30BD30E64F%21180493&authkey=%21AEUgKEyh17dU6OY&width=423&height=295
When I bracketed it with the [i m g][/i m g] commands it embedded the photograph making it visible when previewing.
So—I need to know how to use the new code to embed a photograph so that it's manipulated by this Simple Machines software in the way it used to. Does anyone have the process to share?
-
Download to your local hard drive from the cloud
Upload to this site using the attachments feature
-
The way I do it currently, since I use the phone for taking them, I go in and edit to resize to the smallest size, then just hook the phone to the computer, use the attachments and other options below the message box, attach and then pull directly from the phone.
-
So sorry, I use imgur and it provides a link you simply copy and paste into thread. I have no idea how to help! But will try a few things right now!
-
Makes no sense. That is your 2nd link, using the img link with Windows 10, using Chrome on a desktop.

Yeah, I can use the Attachments and other options command and let Simple Machines embed the photograph obtained from my chosen Internet storage site, it doesn't have to be on my hard drive, but I can't see the photograph in Preview mode to judge the size and other variables like I could when using the [i m g][/ i m g] commands with the old html code that Apple Safari generated.

Yeah, that used to work like a charm and it didn't take space on your server. But that coding is no more.
