That is: Kansas City Barbecue Society.

Yes, CBJ as well.

Yes, I was for about 12 years. I joined because I wanted to be a CBJ and judge, but haven't rejoined in the last couple of years because I have not judged recently or even wanted to.
-
I am a KCBS member as well.

Yes I'm an active KCBS Member and Judge.

I was from 2003-2015...but have been inactive as a Member and a Certified Master Judge since 2015. Just a few click on the computer when I want to go active again!

member and judge. it gets me into RD!
-
No, I was for a few years to be able to get into RD. I have no desire to be a judge or be active in competitions. I didn't get anything out of being a member other than the RD entry. The Bullsheet was nothing of interest to me. Not sure what else KCBS really has to offer a backyard BBQ person.

Don't have to be to compete, even in KCBS sanctioned competitions. And this is nothing against the organization, but other then RD pass, there really isn't anything.

RD = Restaurant Depot which is a restaurant supply store. They have a pretty extensive meat department at wholesale prices.

Here is a picture I found. (https://i.imgur.com/YQvUlYT.jpg)

That picture is on side of one room in the RD I go to and they then have Sam's Club type racks in the middle and ends of each room with product. They have jackets hanging on a rack for people to wear when they walk in the refrigerated room. I just bought boneless skinless chicken breasts for $0.99/# there yesterday. You had to buy a 40# case, but I split it with family 10# each so it was not a big deal to have to buy that much. Their case prices are usually about 10% less than regular unit pricing. Angus superior brisket packers were $3.54/# unit or $3.19/# by the case.

What I like the best about their meats like brisket, shoulders, ribs, etc. is you can build a case. I like to cook briskets in the 15 - 17 pound range. To get case price you have to purchase 51+ pounds. I usually pick through the briskets to select the ones I like and build a case.

We do not have a RD in my area.
