We have 51 members as of this morning (you can't go by the stats numbers, that shows all who have registered for an account and we are trying to weed out spammers -- I am kinda thinking that sexygirl at porn something or other was not seriously into pellet pits).
I know I am going to sound a bit mushy, but you all will just have to bear with me. We were both a little depressed at how PH worked out, but I tried to encourage Bent to start this new forum. He kept thinking we had maybe missed the boat, that the market was too full. I told him that we should give it a year and that if we had 50 members by the end of the year, with 25 being good solid contributors, we would go on for another year.
We have now had 50 members in 10 days. I am blown away, but probably shouldn't be. I think that is something of a testament as to the regard in which you all hold Bentley, but also to your love of pellet cooking and sharing that experience with like minded people. So far, everyone has been a wonderful contributor and so supportive. I am happy we decided to go this route. Thank you all.

Thank you to both of you!

Both. And I'll include you in that assessment.
I've privately told Bentley many times that I wish he lived next door. And I'll also include you in that assessment.

As I posted a couple of days ago, this site looks like it's gonna take off and fly.

I think thick skinned people can see through some of the BS. Bentley does not come off as soft sometimes. Short fused even. There is a kind, gentle man behind the iron curtain. I don't offend easily. I can see why some thinner skinned folks have ran, but I know him personally and his heart is typically in the right place.
I hope the forum does well.

Bentley's forthright style reminds me of the way coaches talk. I like that. I don't have to read between the lines or wonder what he really meant.

I have never seen him as short fused. But direct (which I appreciate) and consistent in his approach (which I appreciate even more). With a forum such as this, people will go where the passion is, where there is a genuine willingness to share ideas, recipes, etc. Where we can discuss who is the best college football team (Ohio State if any of you were wondering) and share pet photos even. This community will continue to grow as the word spreads.
I for one am happy to be a part of it!
-
Tsk, tsk, tsk TLK, obviously breathing in too much of that smoke from the Yoder. Ohio State indeed ::)

Great site and great people running it spells success. I'm glad to be here and participate and help in any way.
PS: TLK I root for OSU once each season when they play Michigan other than that it's Michigan State all the way.
-
I can say with truth and conviction, I would root for Ohio St over Alabama!
-
3 pages of posts already too. I don't remember that level of activity recently elsewhere.
-
Looks like we are gaining momentum
-
I smell PelletFan success coming from my stack!
-
Thanks for all the nice words and sentiment. We would sure like to think it will grow although Bentley says he feels like he is surrounded by a group of great friends right now, so why would you want anything else? ;D
I guess if the folks here like it and spread the word, then maybe over time more will find out about us. But we are pretty happy and amazed right now.
-
It does feel like a bunch of great friends, and I think I only met 3 people on here in person.
Bentley for an hour or two over dinner.
Chris Becker a few times I went to his shop to buy pellets
Phrett who I ran into for 5-10 minutes at Becker's shop as he was buying pellets that day too
-
We all have the same passion for cooking. Once we learn and share all is good. I hope this grows!
-
Hard to believe how the site has exploded in the last week. Very glad you did this Bentley!
Looking forward to seeing you at the 2018 Royal - hope we can pull that off.

We are up to almost 60 members!
PS - someone posted on PH this morning that you could find Bentley on pelletfan.com, it was up for about 5 mins before it got removed.

haha...I hope that guy didn't spend too much to buy that site. Sorta like the Robin coming in without Batman.

EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS, jcorwin818,
I never root for UofM. Never. And my wife is from AnnArbor.
So it gets kinda ugly around here on some Saturdays.

Interesting .... since one of their "Global Moderators" is posting here. They shouldn't feel threatened. There should be room for everybody.
-
This site is growing fast,it is mostly experienced members from what I see.
-
And I told the owner before I left and informed him I was starting this one...if it happened, he should have it removed as soon as it goes up!
Who ever did it, I appreciate the sentiment, but we need to get the word out in a different way. The reason I wanted to be removed...I am enough of a weasel I might have tried it down the road and I prefer to have my integrity, even if I have to do harsh things to keep it!
So, don't post things like that...but don't be afraid to share the site with folks you know!

So does this mean we're on for year two?

As long as the members are happy and want to continue on with us, we will go forward.

We just hit 100 members!

I've been keeping track of the 'other' site from home and werk. At home, I have a favorite link to the site.
Werk spies on me so I google it. As of today, googleing 'pelletheads' yields little results.
It makes me sad that all that time/effort/input by all the members seems to have gone for naught. :(
-
I keep getting site unavailable??
-

Yes, Bentley tells me it is a Hot Wheels, not a match box (once again behind the times!)

Yes, me also. I was about the 5th person registered on PH and over 10 years on the site. There was some outdated stuff and it could have used a little "freshening up", but a wonderful repository of knowledge, experience and information. I hope it is back up soon.

I just hope folks do not think I was picking the Members I wanted to come over. I had about 20 email from the 6 years we did the American Royal. And just so you know that Mr. Nimrod who was quite active on Pelletheads, he has come here too! How you say? Well, I realized I had pmillen and Free Mr Tonys (now keep in mind he has competed in 2 American Royals and 3 Team Pelletheads.com Competitions) emails, they had both contacted me before I started this site about something, so I wrote them and told them. Pmillen came on same day, FMT took about a week (not even sure if he got email). So that is all the contact I had, yes, I still had access to Pelletheads.com and those that had their email visable I could have used, but I gave my word I would not...Did not want to do what I had banned someone else for doing and Did that Ramesses so let it be written thing on!
So I did not have a way to let others know...Oh, Mr Nimrod, he realized he had those other 19 email addresses about 9 days after the sute was up and let then know.
So if ya think I was playing favorites, I was not, just had no way to let folks know!
-
Bent, I , like others will figure out this site is here.
Word of mouth, social media, will make sure of that.
-
Thats great.... Glad one of the other members on the GMG FB page suggested it to me.. Great site and thank you both for starting it.
-
It will happen organically over time. I had heard this existed, but hadn't found my way here until a week or so ago while searching for a new 'home'. So, give it time, but really it's off to a great start already!

Just got on board yesterday. I started getting the "Service Unavailable" a few weeks back and thought you guys were gone for good. It took me a while to find this site but there was a link on another forum in response to another guy trying to find out what happened.
I am new to pellet cooking and really enjoyed the content on the old site. My Traeger was purchased just last May and it is a hit with my family and friends. Most of what I have cooked came from ideas found on the forum.
Thanks guys for bringing us up a new home.

I am sure Bentley will clear it up, but this is not a new Pelletheads site. I am not sure anyone knows what has happened there. Most speculate they are doing some significant maintenance on the site. Bentley put this together with help from a few others before the PH site went down. Welcome aboard.

Bytor: Where's the Snow Dog? :-)
All I know, is if By-Tor is here, then we must be... well in a place where eternal flames are present. Perhaps Snow Dog didn't wasn't as victorious as was once thought.

Stealthily attacking he slayed his foe and now the men are free to run from the laberythes below.
HUGE Rush fan here.

Pretty much takes care of it. Thanks!

I have been a huge fan too... especially in the early years. But I must admit to never getting much past Lake Side Park on that album... We were probably too busy getting... well we had other things that took up much of our time back then. Turns out our lakeside park had some willows of it's own... that was a bit of a local anthem. But I must say, if you really like the entire Caress of Steel album, you are indeed a hardcore Rush fan. But I digress...
On with more pelletfan members...

I was watching the growth here today on a regular basis because I was curious about the numbers.
At 5: AM PST, there were 108 members. later in the morning that figure shot up to 115, with JimAZ as the latest member.
A bit later, it hit 118 and JimAZ was the latest member. Then it dropped back to 115 with (you guessed it) JimAZ again the newest member.
Now it's at 117 members, and.. Howdy JimAZ. ???
-
I was lucky and found this forum after the issues with another. A lot of familiar member names showing up.

There must be some lag in the latest member update... I noticed the same thing happening yesterday as I spent 15 minutes waiting for the count to reach 100.

As best as I can figure out, when a person registers for an account, they are assigned a number -- I guess the next number in line. They then go to a pool to be approved. Bentley does the approving because he runs all the e-mail address to see what country the person is registering from. If we have someone from Russia or Vietnam or Nigeria, we don't approve because we can take a pretty good guess that is a spammer -- or worse. So that person's number may not make the rotation and, I think, is reassigned.
If he knows the handle from PH, he will usually just approve. But we don't recognize or remember all those handles, so those folks are conditionally approved and go into another pool where they are sent an e-mail and need to confirm their e-mail to make sure they aren't a robot (or whatever). So those numbers are sitting on another list -- there are 15 people currently on that list who have been approved but have not confirmed their e-mail.
So, it is not a straight chronological count as I understand it. Instead, it depends what your number is. At least, that is the way it seems to me.

That's some great detective work Kristin!

We're all coming like ants to a picnic. A few more posts on other forums from those trying to find out what happened and the numbers will grow rapidly.
-
And to be honest with you, not what I am looking for and not the reason I started the site...but inevitable I guess! To be quite frank, the site is growing way to fast for my liking!

Wish I had known about it sooner, I would have signed up weeks ago. I found out only by searching to find news on the old sight and found a thread mentioning this site.
Best of luck and lets make this thing grow!

I am so glad I found y'all once again!! I'm not even sure what I put in the Google search but it was along the same lines as Lamrith and I saw this site pop up. I clicked on it and immediately felt home and among friends again. And of course I registered right away knowing the "community". Y'all have helped me many times on my pellet grilling journey. Many thanks to everyone who got this site going!

Growing fast...what does 1 spider mean under users online.
-
As I understand "spiders" they are part of google's search process, I think learning what is on the site. But I am a Luddite, so I could be completely wrong.
-
Growing fast...what does 1 spider mean under users online.
Web crawlers or spiders are mainly used to create a copy of all the visited pages for later processing by a search engine, that will index the downloaded pages to provide fast searches.
If you look under the online users you will see Google which is collecting data from the site for its search engine.

Aaaaahhhhh...got ya.
