Someone posted it on another site so I checked it out, there were only a handful of members & look at how fast it's growing.
-
Learned about PelletFan front an obscure link from another site..
I was going to either PM someone or direct email within the next week because I had a sense something good would transpire from the past events.
Glad to be here...

I learned about this site via a top secret cone of silence secure 2 trillion bytes encoded communique from KM.... SHHHHH
-
I am an "other". I visited Go Daddy and must have typed in a billion versions of Pellet - something trying to find a name not taken and not too dorky sounding. Not sure I really got it right, but it's like the movie "Babe" -- "That'll do pig, that'll do" until we maybe think of something better. ;D

I was googling to see what had happened to PH, and I found a mention of PelletFan on Smoking Meat Forums.
I've since posted a link at BBBQS (British BBQ Society) forums, as although pellet users are in the minority there, there are still a few of us. No idea if anyone will show up here.
-
other...Asked about PH on GMG FB page.
-
Email from Trooper and Kristin about the same time.
So glad to be with with old friends.

Given the length of time the other site has been down... I wouldn't be surprised if more and more people start finding Pelletfan... still baffled by the other site's long offline status.
-
After 25 years, I don't think we are more then 5% of the market here!
...BBBQS (British BBQ Society) forums, as although pellet users are in the minority there, there are still a few of us.
And baffled is a good word for what happened to PH!
If it ever does come up, someone do me a favor and tell me the average pages views for Jan 2010 and how many overall there were for that months!

I was googling what happened to PH and this site came up. I immediately recognized all the handles and signed up.
-
Found out about it on Cookshack Forums. Glad I did!
-
I did a Google search for the old website's name since it was down for weeks and confined the search results to the past month. The search results contained a post from someone looking for the same thing. Someone responded with a link to this site.

As I commented to some web-savvy friends on Facebook, it seems to me that "an investment [in a] valuable URL might be wasted. The value is all in the people."

Not quite what you asked for, but on January 8, 2010, there were 12044 posts on 1239 topics, and 4484 members.
The first snapshot I can find is December 6, 2007. 1079 posts on 147 topics and 85 members.
A month later, January 6, 2007 - 1142 posts on 155 topics and 94 members.
A month after that, February 6, 2007 - 1311 posts on 173 topics and 100 members.
More details available from the Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/*/pelletheads.com

Where do you guys come up with this stuff? Did you all help build the Great Pyramid?
The reason I wanted the page views for 1/1/2010 was to compare how may eyes Pelletheads had for the 1st Performance Test and what Pellet Fan has now?
So, I cant get exact numbers, but I can get close with this! Pelletheads had 180,130 in January of 2010, that works out to about 5800 page views/day. Pellet Fan is at appx 155K for 28 day or 5500/day.
I was afraid that Manufactures that sent Pits in for Performance Testing might get the short end of the stick this early...but I feel much betta now!
-
I've had the Wayback Machine as a permanent link for years. Really comes in handy sometimes. ;D
It is one of the reasons I laugh when I read about politicians wanting to censor the internet. Good luck with that.

Bentley, Bentley, Bentley... All this time I thought we were of the same age bracket.
Did you not grow up watching Rocky and Bullwinkle? Remember Peabody and Sherman? In many an episode, Professor Peabody (the pooch) and his boy Sherman, would invoke the use of the WABAC Machine to travel back in time to witness famous historical events.
WABAC: Wavelength Acceleration Bidirectional Asynchronous Controller.
-
Yeah and how do you think Chris_M was able to help build the Pyramids... his nane is probably really Sherman.
-
I did grow up watching Rocky and Bullwinkle & I do remember Peabody and Sherman...I remember the time travel...The machine, I do not! To be honest with you, I was more of a Boris fan! His last name just cracked me up!

Yeah, I would venture to guess that we are not even a blip on any search engine. Larry paid for that stuff I think...That just aint gonna happen here!

I remembered that Bentley had said that he had intentions on starting another site. Did several searches looking for it, was starting to think it didn't happen until I did a search one day on pelletheads being down and got a hit from where someone was asking the question on another site, went there and found where someone responded by telling about this site. Glad I found it and everything is looking great!!!!
-

Give it time. It takes a long time, though incoming links help. Do a daily post on the twitter that includes a link to some interesting post here (not just the pelletfan twitter, but if others here do that social media stuff, help drive traffic). If you (anyone reading) have a personal blog or whatever, toss up a quick post to help people find pelletfan.com. I did this for my own dumb blog.
-
I have been so bummed with PH down...was on BBQ Brethren yesterday and saw a post about PH being down. Somebody in the thread mentioned PF, and here I am :)

Not sure what 'blip' on the radar means, but when I google 'pelletfan', it comes right up near the top. I've no idea if that's because I google it repeatedly and google tracks my personal searches vs the conglomerate of searches by the masses at large.
-
Google pellet forums and we wont come up, but that is fine with me.
I do not know how to say this without sounding like a Wanker, so I will just say it! I did not want this site to be just another Pelletheads.com. I guess I had hoped for the more "seasoned" pellet fan...We welcome everyone, but growth is the least of my concerns right now!
-
found it looking for what happened to other site.. glad i found this site.. i dont post much, but read new posts at least twice a day... thanks bentley.
-
Great to see this site, I found the breadcrumb on another site searching for direction.

p.s. Bentley you may want to PIN this topic. :)

I saw it mentioned by another member on another forum. He wanted us to know that we could get to the PH info.

That was my thread. ;D
And that's how I got here.

Discovered it while trying to find out what happened to the PH site. Mentioned this site while on another forum I sometimes visit. Sure feels good to see this forum has new life. Thanks
-
Not sure if you are confusing this site or not...

No confusion. Guess poor choice of words on my part. Just glad I found it.

Google search for "Pellet Grill Forum"....
Page 7 brings us this:
http://www.filklore.com/wordpress/2017/09/pellet-grill-forum-www-pelletfan-com/
http://www.foodadventure.org.uk/wordpress/2017/09/21/wood-pellet-grill-forum-www-pelletfan-com/
Nothing in the first 16 pages directly for pelletfan
-
Hey we made it to either page 7 or 17 I am not sure and Thank you very much Chris_M!
-
And here is the weird thing about Google.
No doubt my articles (Filklore is my personal blog, and Food Adventure is my food blog) were on page 7 or page 17 originally.
But because lots of people have clicked on them (presumably from here), they are now both on page 1, positions 1 & 2. :D

Google results are personalized, so unless you use an incognito window, things that are yours, or you visit frequently will float to the top. I use duckduckgo.com as my default search engine, since it doesn't track you.

Bump -- curious to know about folks who have joined since the last post.
-
I was a new member on PH when it closed down. I also saw it on BBQ Brethren and joined right away. I really like the vibe in this site and that it's dedicated to pellet smokers.
-
Bump -- we have so many new members in the last 2 to 3 months, it really surprises me. I am curious as to how folks are finding out about us.
-
While waiting on my new pellet grill to be delivered, I searched for pellet grill forums. I was wanting to gain some knowledge before the grill arrived. PF turned out to be the best grilling forum so I stayed! :)
-
I was researching pellet brands, reviews, etc and results linked to a discussion on here.

I don't even remember. I'd been a member of the "other" forum for a year or so when things started going south. I really don't remember how I learned about the migration. I'm glad I did, though.
-
By accident...I was on a trip around the country last year, and went looking for Pelletheads.com...couldn't find it, thinking the end all of sites about pellet cooking was gone. Somehow by accident I ran across this site. Still finding my way around it.
