Kristin and I will be at the Fresno State Vs U of Minnesota football game Saturday September 8, 2018. Even if it is just the 2 of us, we will bring an Ez-up and table to tailgate. Even if you don't want to come to the game, come join us for a time at the tailgate. All we ask if you are coming is to let us know so we can have some extra food and bring a chair! It is a 6:30pm kick-off, so we will probably be out there from about 2-6!

Starting to actually turn into a tailgate...I wish we had a pit, but as I have always said, food is food! We will have ez-up and tables, even a big cooler...I just cant stress enough...

It's about a 4 hour trip for me, but I'm thinking about maybe doing it. Daughter has been wanting to do the little mall up there again, so we'll have to see what soccer and school schedules shape up like over next few weeks.

It is a 6pm game. We would want to have everything back in truck by 5:30. It will probably be an all day event for us. We will probably get up, have breakfast and go out some where around the motel parking lot set up. I would think we will be all set up by Noon...we have nothing else to do but sit around, cook food (if you bring a pit) and drink Gatorade and Ice Tea! But we can always just have sandwiches and sides if it is a pain!
I see the average temperature on September 8th is 75°...I guarantee, with us coming, never fails, the record for that day is 99°, I assure you it will be 100° that day! If it really is 75°, it is gonna be a party day!

i am going to cancel out on bringing my Pro down but will bring a dish to pass instead.

No need for pit. To much hassle for anyone...My uncles have a small charcoal square unit that will fit in truck. Will bring it and if wee really need flame it will do!

Memphis could get a bit of exposure (advertising) if they had a pit there. They're fairly local.

We are ordering our tickets today. Going to splurge and spend more than we normally would to get better seats. We figured if we are traveling this far (and I don't think FSU will be playing anywhere close to us for several years so might be last game for a while), we would get a bit closer to the action!!!

Probably will just have to be cold stuff, maybe freshly made off the tailgate of the truck. Maybe a few loaves of good french bread (with some of the inside bead pulled out) filled with various meats and cheeses, lettuce, tomato, etc. You just cut off what you want. A few salads. Something sweet. I will have to give it a bit more thought.

I will ask this again before we leave next week, but we would like to get a head count if you wanna eat. We dont mind having food there, but dont want to have to deal with a bunch of left overs.
Also, if you wanna sit, bring a chair and BYOB...Have decide we will be there from 1-5 since it is a 6pm game!

Wish I could make it too, but have a soccer game to attend about 90 minutes the opposite direction. If it had been towards Minneapoliis I might have been able to make it work after soccer was done.

I picked up Bentley & Kristin at their hotel about 5:30 and we headed out for the 5-8 Club - Home of the Juicy Lucy burger in So. Mpls. (Cedar & Crosstown).

A half pound burger stuffed with our secret sauce and topped with american cheese, shredded lettuce, raw onions, and a smear of thousand island dressing.
Kristin had the Roadhouse Burger

A 5-8 sauce, american cheese, bacon and onion rings made this burger a staff favorite.
I had the House standard Juicy Lucy. Burgers were very good and had a great visit!!
Will let them comment on the finer points of their meal.

It was a Great Burger! Onion rings were dissapointing. Looked great when they brought them to different tables, but found out they are not made from scratch, nor were they cooked properly...you have to ask for crisp! Who knew! But again, one Fine Burger, I would go back for it!
Was so Great to see and get to spend time with Z! Has been 3 years!

About noon today, I called my good friend ZCZ and discussed with him the fact that I indeed would be rooting for the Fresno State BULLDOGS as they take on his beloved Minnesota Gophers.
This would be to honor Bentley and Kristen who have traveled a great distance to enjoy this game. I told ZCZ that I certainly wanted B & K to head back to Virginia with a victory under their belts.
ZCZ continued in the conversation by stating he would therefore be rooting heavily (in retailiation) for the Wolverines when they take on MSU later this year.
What kind of a friend is that? Just who would do a thing like that?? That is tough to take, ZCZ!

I've met Bentley 2x and Kristin 1x. Great folks. Looking forward to the next time we meet up.
Would love to meet others on here. I have only been active on 2 message boards in my life, and have made some life long friends on them. Never had a bad experience meeting up with a member.

All in good fun between Trooper & I. We met at the 2010 American Royal and we hit it off. Have had lots of good laughs together. He is from MI and I from MN. Come to find out he lives on Hidden Creek Court in MI and I live on Hidden Creek Place in MN. Go figure.

I was walking around the area and didn't see the setup, but later I saw someone in a Fresno shirt walking around the stadium, and now seeing this thread with a posted picture, it appears it must have been the two of you.
Hope you enjoyed the game. Exciting to the end. At least we shared some nice weather with you.

Well in the end the Gophers squeeked it out and came out on top.
But the Bulldogs and their fans can hang their heads high.

We got up at 5:10 am and were on the road by 5:45. Drove from Minneapolis to Indianapolis trying to deter around Chicago (not that easy to plot) so it was a 700 mile day. Have just had supper and I am done. I will have to post about the trip after we get home tomorrow night -- a 600 mile day tomorrow so look for something Wed. We have decided that we have gotten too old to be the road warrior we were of old.

Sorry also! We were out there for awhile at 2, ate a little, then decided no one was coming so we went back to the room. Memphis Tech came by about 3:30 and we were in the room, he could not find us either, but he called up to the romm so we came down and we visisted for about 45 minutes, then he went home and I went to take a shower, changhe and into the game.
Many comments on the game, the people around the game and just the trip...But not tonight! Trooper, I knew I could count on you Buddy!

I strongly urge Meatloaf lover's to avoid the dish at Bob Evens in East Indianapolis...Very bad! Finishing my 4th slider and getting into the sack!

1st rate stadium, doubt you could find a bad seat in it! The people were great, folks around us were true fans, but they were not obnoxious! Fresno State's offense did not show up till the last 9 minutes, anyone that watched the whole game knows what I mean. We made it look much closer then it was at the end. Not sure if Dogs were flat, or they just cant play with a "major" conference at any level. I truly thought we were going to beat them by 20 before the game, but the M defense dominated the Dogs! I don't think the offense was across 50 yard line till middle of 3rd quarter and I think they had 3 first downs in 1st half!
I guess we will see what happens in a year at Fresno!

Glad you enjoyed the stadium and good to hear the Minnesotans were Minnesota-Nice.
I think you have an excellent team. I believe we had a few guys play above their level which was needed to win that game. Our best player got hurt on the third offensive play so a few young guys had to play a lot more, but it was an exciting game. Our defense had a really good effort including the insane defensive play at the end of the game.
I would bet your team scores 24 or more in every game after this.

They just had to be on the field 13 minutes longer then the offensive, and had to deal with Dog offensive giving the ball back on a turnover in Minnesota territory! The offensive did not hold up there end of the agreement!
I did not see the game (recently cut my cable) but the Dog defense could not have been all that bad as the Gophers did not score that many points.
Will see if they rebound this Saturday, if they can beat UCLA in Pasadena I will write Minn loss off as an off day!

In case no one noticed, I'm a DAWG fan (UW Huskies). I hate all other Pac 12 teams (except the Cougars at WSU 1 time a year). WOOF!
I see no reason why the Bulldogs of FS can't put another beat down on UCLA. Cincy beat them 27-16, and we won't even mention OU.

I think Minnesota might be better than UCLA this year. Minn defense is currently in top 10 (but they played two weaker opponents in their other two games).
One thing for sure, our team was not under-estimating Fresno coming in, and it was important they weren't otherwise they would have looked like UCLA did.

I do think a lot of teams underestimate what they perceive as a "lesser" opponent -- and they often pay the price. I definitely believe that the Golden Gophers brought their A game against FSU. But one thing that may have helped against UCLA is that UCLA fans don't necessarily think FSU is a worthy opponent and may not have shown up. It is also only a 4 hour drive from Fresno, so (at least in the past) a lot of FSU fans will travel. I know it is not a substitute for good play, but having fans there to support you helps some college athletes -- and those U of Minn fans were impressive in their support of their team!!!

I see Minnesota agreed to the home-and-home with Fresno.
Hopefully you have a lot of people graduating. It will be another tough non-conference game.
