Like I said in my introduction, I’m new to pellet smoking. I’ve only done one long cook on a brisket and a few shorter cooks on ribs, chicken, poppers, etc. The one think I noticed and really missed from the beginning was a good smoke flavor. Coming from stick and charcoal/wood chunk smokers, it really was lacking. Or seemed to be to my pallet anyway. And I was using what I’m told are quality pellets; BBQ’er Delight Hickory and Lumberjack comp blend on different cooks.
Coming into the house and the better half not making a comment about me smelling like smoke sealed the deal and I ordered an Amaz’n smoke tube. Today is my first smoke using it and I can clearly see a difference in the smoke output.
Tinkering with placement, I settled on the back wall of the Silverbac with the lit end toward the hopper. I’ve taken a peek and it looks like it’s smolders to the left and wraps back around over the food (turkey today) so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I really want to love this thing called pellet smoking.
SSL. Hope everybody has a smoking good weekend!

I've found that the blends are almost tasteless. I prefer using Lumberjack 100% hickory and no tube is needed.

My advice is try different brands/flavors of pellets to see what you like. Smoke form a stick burner is completely different than a pellet unit. Good luck with the smoke tube. I have used them in the past with great success.

Over time, one of two things will happen. You will decide that a pellet grill is not the flavor profile you like. Or, you will decide that you no longer like the creosote taste you thought you liked and you will fall in love with your pellet grill flavor profile that allows you to still enjoy the flavor of the rub and or sauce as well.

First off. The tube performed exactly as advertised. Smoked like a champ for 4 hrs using pre-filled hickory pellets. Second: I smoked a turkey because everybody around here is tired of ribs, chicken, and brisket. May have not been the best test meat. I don’t know. But, I will say it was the best turkey I’ve ever smoked. Tender, juicy, and a Smokey flavor. BUT, the smoke flavor was more subtle. I could taste it and it was not overpowering. I really can’t describe it. I think the overall moistness of the meat paired perfectly with it. Much more satisfied with the final product this time.
However....the temp probe quit working on the Silverbac. It wasn’t a big deal because I had a small portable unit I used. But still...
All in all, It was pretty dang good.

You sure do speak the truth on this. For me, I had to get use to my pellet grill results coming from a charcoal cooker, but now I am really liking the pellet grill results much better. The rubs/sauces are tastier and the meat is more moist. The smoke flavor is still there, but much more subtle and tastier.

I agree. The BBQ Delight hickory is blended with oak, and the LJ are Hickory blended with two other mild woods. Try 100% hickory and see if you still need the tube.

Try the BBR's delight (or B&B). mesquite blend. I think you might like the stronger mesquite taste. I did a brisket with mesquite and it really turned out well.

Try their Black Walnut if they still make it too!

This is the pellet flavor that I used that produced the most smokey flavor over all the other pellets I have tried. I totally agree with Bentley about this flavor pellet. The place I got mine don't carry them but since they order BBD pellets every few weeks they had 5 bags thrown in for me on there regular order for me. Worked out great.

I can say the LJ 100% pecan put out a strong smoke flavor on a eye of round a smoked recently. I also recently smoked a butt with their 100% hickory and it had good smoke flavor too. No tube was needed. I do like strong smoke flavors.
