Labor day cook was close to a disaster. Put on a brisket, 2 butts, 3 racks of BB, beans and crackers.
That fills a Lil Tex. Set to 225° and walked away for an hour. I figured it was time to put all the probes from my verity of devices in.
When I did, I noticed everything was higher in temps than it should be after an hour. The readout on the controller showed 45°.
I wiggled a bunch of stuff behind the controller but it seemed it was running full time. Device showed 425°.
Bad words were spoken. I opened the covers and cooled things down. Next few hours were more of the same.
after 5 hours the brisket was 205° and felt tender. The beans and crackers were in the cold smoker side but done..
Ribs were a little dryer than normal but I was the only one that noticed. I did not serve the brisket, just wrapped and put in fridge when cool enough.
Butts pulled nicely and were good after the magic juices were added. The next day I chopped up the brisket and added sauce and rub. I will cook those tomorrow. They taste good cold so they should be OK when cooked. I ordered a controller that I have wanted for a long time from, well, I think most of you know who. I should be back in business soon. This weekend is not going to be good for us in Orlando. Been through these before and never a good time.
Quote I saw online:
Texas-We just went through one of the most powerful hurricanes to hit our country of all time.
Florida-Here. Hold my beer.

Good luck to you all in the coming days. Wish there was something of substance I could do for you, but you and all your family and neighbors will be in my prayers. When you can, please post and let us all know how things are for you.

We're saying prayers for the entire state of FL. Be safe!

Update from Orlando. Sorry for not getting back to you all sooner. I have been a little busy.
I have to replace 5 sections of fence, a few pool enclosure screens, lost a medium tree and LOTS of downed branches to cleanup.
Fall in Florida. There are leaves all over the ground. Unfortunately they are still attached to trees.
I was very fortunate that I did not loose power like most.
I got my new controller and I am impressed with the performance right out of the box.

We are pleased you are well!

Good to know you are ok.

Update:
I was going to replace my broken fence sections this weekend. I thought I would give the big box stores some time to get things back in stock.
This is what I got when I searched for stores in my area that might have fence panels.
I guess I will just have to put stuff on the smoker this weekend instead. No Problem.

I would not travel 100 miles for a fence panel either, but a brisket on the other hand ;D

not sure if this attached, but we are losing house to the ocean on A1A in St.Augustine.
-
So sorry to hear that. I hope you could salvage valuable contents before collapse. Can I have that section of fence you are standing next to?
A1A is in bad shape from Ormond Beach and north.
-
Fortunately not my place, I live across A1A away from the beach. They are still building homes along the ocean with less than 15 yards from the high tide mark!!!!!

Everyone has seen this pic and they see the house in the foreground. Look in the background. Tick tock.

I know you are not trying to be flippant, or disrespectful...But that is some funny stuff!
And it never dawned on me till your fence post (I got a million of em!) how difficult it must be to get building supplies after something like this!
Can I have that section of fence you are standing next to?

Hey Bent, you need a time out after that one.
If you fly into Orlando you will see a lot of "Blue Roofs".
That is all too much of a common phrase this time of year. (This is what it is called when a lot your shingles have been blown off and you or a company puts blue tarps on your roof to slow down the leaking in your house until you can get a new roof. Sometimes months).
I remember shortly after Charlie (2004) flying back in from a business trip and seeing almost as many blue roofs as regular.
Pick your spot in the country. Winds, Floods, Fires, Drought, Tornadoes, Extreme Freezing, Excessive Snow Collapse, add more if you got them.
Be thankful about where you live. You may be some of the lucky ones that escape all the bad stuff. This is the first time for me to get damage since 2004 and not much at that.
This is a pellet smoker/grill site so be sure to make preparations to protect your unit right after you secure your family.
