First my apologies to Bentley and the site Mods, we have a lot of friends here that don't follow the Competition Board, if this needs to be moved we understand.
This Weekend while we were competing at Juarez Canyon in Oregon we received notification that Myself and my Co-Pitmaster will be representing the entire National Organization "Disabled American Veterans" (DAV) at the World Food Championships. I cannot even begin to tell everyone the emotions we are feeling, not only are we both Vets with challenges but we have the opportunity to promote DAV and what individuals can achieve to a national audience.

Congratulations riverrat49 on your honor, and even more importantly, thank you for your service

So what will you be cooking at the World Food Championships? ..... How does it work?
-
This Year we will be cooking in the "Burger" Category which is one of 10 Categories each with 50 (except BBQ which I believe can be a couple hundred) chefs, pro-cooks, Pitmasters, Private Chefs, Home Cooks etc... You can get a Golden Ticket some of which can get you free entry fee and travel stipend and other golden tickets that reserve your place. Entry fee is $300 with the top prize being $100,000 and other gifts, media appearances etc. In our case I took 5th in the National Bubba Burger Contest. World Food Championships list a number of different ways to enter not only in head to head competition but also via Recipe contests like Taste of America which awards a certain amount of Golden Tickets to all 50 States so your Recipe is only competing against others in your State. Do home cooks have a chance ? Absolutely we had a number of home cooks, don't let Chefs intimidate you we were like 24th of 50 last year and did better than like 16 pro chefs our Signature Steak was like 14th best.

Humility is long but forgotten in todays world. :(
You my friend... I couldn't walk a block in your shoes. Your service, contributions to our soldiers and veterans, and to this site, are valued beyond words.
I can say 'thank you' for all you've done, but it still doesn't approach the measure of your worth. To be humble in the process is a gift no one can deny.
Few will ever touch the hearts that you have. Good luck and God speed in your venture.

Major Congrats ...

A very Heart felt Thanks to everyone, I really am at a loss for words at this moment but know I consider each and every one of you like old friends. What our journey to WFC will bring could be anybody's guess but this year it will have new meaning and we will once again do our best and walk away with no regrets.

We will be pulling for you!
