Title: Do You Have a Name for Your Cooking Area and Why?
Post by: Canadian John on August 28, 2018, 10:24:02 AM

For the record, mine is, "FORT BBQ". It's gazebo like.  The why is, it's built like a fort. Strong structure wise. Not looking like a fort.  And BBQ. I'll leave that one up to your imagination.

There is a solid copper plaque on it that reads: "Fort BBQ
                                                                        2016".

An other name that came to mind lately is Pit Row. That would have been a good one for my patio that reflected my collection of pits prior to Fort BBQ.

I like the Pit Row name, but right now it is just called my patio.

B-Lew, I get the impression that you are a jedi master level salesman.  How in the world did you convince your wife to say yes to all of that equipment?  I'm jealous.  I'll take any relationship advice you can offer.
Sorry for sidetracking the thread.

My wife likes to refer to our deck as the "Hillbilly Hangout"  she thinks with 4 smokers and a gas grill that our back deck makes us look all hillbilly.  As I like to tell her I have yet to see you refuse anything that comes off the set up so doesn't bother you too bad lol

Agree on expectations early.  And there is a trade-off.  She gets to go to Europe for two weeks almost every year for the last 6-7 years.

That reminds me of a story about a visitor to a pig farm. The visitor was greeted by a young boy and asked him where his father was. The reply was over there. All the visitor could see was pigs. The boy then stated, he's the one with the hat..You can just imagine what the father looked like.

I call the area where I do all my smoking and grilling "heaven." But not for the reason you might assume.

I do all my outdoor cooking on my deck, which faces due west. Due to the slope of the land, I don't get any shade from trees. So it's very hot. The roofline of my house extends to the outer edge of the deck, but that doesn't provide shade on a summer afternoon/evening.

My solution is to hang a king-size white sheet from the gutter with clothes pins. It hangs down to the floor of the deck and blocks the sun from shining on most of my deck. I only put it up when I'm cooking on the deck.

Even though I thought my solution was pretty clever, my wife HATES when I hang the sheet. She says it looks like "redneck heaven." So now when I an going to be out on the deck cooking, listening to tunes, and drinking a few adult beverages, I just tell her that I'm going to "heaven."

I would love to see pics of everyone's cook area! I will volunteer and post one tomorrow!

We have a detached, covered area with water, electric, and a counter top. We call it our Outdoor Kitchen. I would like to add a refrigerator but, duh, it's Arizona and I don't think the heat would be good for that equipment. Firepit there gets a ton of use in season. Lesser Goldfinch feed close by year round.

It's also adjacent to my Stock Tank Pool. Essentially it's all redneck heaven.

[ Invalid Attachment ] .  It's called the "BBQ Shack" or just "Shack". If you expand the picture, there's a sign depicting it.   Not much but it keeps the rain off my little bald spot.   (beneficial in the PNW)

Yes it is,  SWMBO got it in kit form for me couple of years ago for my birthday.  It's copper, also have a counter top that slides over it for extra counter space.

I don't have a name, never thought about that, but might now come up with one.  Here is an older picture of my "outside" cooking area which has not changed since the picture was taken.  Looks like I need a few more cooking pits/appliances to keep up with the Jones'.... haha, but for now this works for me.

When I built the little covered area for my Traeger, I decided it needed a sign.

Only problem is that the BBQ equipment has now overgrown the capacity of the cover! :D
