I am completely computer illiterate, but I figured out how to add an avatar all by myself -- it was a proud moment ;D
I choose the picture of a German Chocolate Cheesecake because that was the dessert I entered in the "anything but" category of a recent competition and received my first ever 180 pin.
-
Mine will change depending on how bad Fresno State Football does, I am an extremely loyal fan...so that is mine now.
-
I remember your research prior to selecting the German Chocolate Cake.
My avatar will probably change frequently. Right now it's one of my hunting dogs after a day in the field sleeping with her head on my hand. I chose it because I'm amazed by these dogs.
- They're incredibly social.
- They learn fast and learn to understand likely gamebird locations.
- All they want to do is please their pack.
- They know that I want them to locate gamebirds, point them out and retrieve downed birds without damaging them.
- Granted, most of this is instinctive for them, but they are single-minded to the point where nothing distracts them from their jobs, not even a rabbit bolting from under their feet.
- They're valuable family members.
- So I love them. They treat me in a way that I interpret as love, but it may just be pack behavior.
If you live with a dog you'll understand.
-
It just seemed appropriate for the site. Slow cooker.
-
It is about that time of year where we begin yet another quest in search of Lombardi #7.
-
My Avatar is the Korean Burger that was one of the Top 5 in the National Bubba Burger Competition, this gave me a Golden Ticket to compete in the World Food Championships in Nov at Orange Beach, Alabama.
-
Just one of my 8 cats
-
I like cats because they're independent. If yer alone with a dog and you die, the dog will be there with you until it also dies (given the circumstances).
A cat will gladly eat you to survive. :o And everyone loves bacon.

I always thought you where off base.

Always? Like forever?
Yer not the 1st to accuse me of being a rebel. heheh....
-
Nah, you good
-
Because I look like a hungry little kid in it....and that ain't been true for a while! More BBQ please!
-
A Flaming Eagle! It's American and BBQ! .......................................... ZEP
-
It's my old military unit insignia.
-
Back in August, I had my German Chocolate Cheesecake pic up there. Now that it is college football season, time for the Tide to reappear!
-
Just a pic of some food I cooked.
-
Sunshine a sequoia cactus, both of which are plentiful in Arizona.
-
A pic of my pit.
-
I thought my avatar was a useful indication that BBQ goes on elsewhere.
For anyone that worries, it is not meant to signify that I am burning the flag! That's not really a thing over here. ;D
-
I chose mine because of what Kristin's avatar is.
-
Mine is a just a pic of one of my old trucks
I probably am into my old trucks more than BBQ at various times of the year :)
-
North Side of Kauai Island at around 3500 ft. Just a breathtaking view of the mountains, the ocean and the waterfall in the mountain. It was 70 degrees just perfect weather. Not a bad cell phone shot.
-
It's a pick of my new Vizsla Zoe
-
Super affectionate dogs. As soft as velvet. Is Zoe going to hunt? One of my three hunting buddies has one. I love hunting over her.
Please post a larger photograph in the General Discussion > Show Us Your Pets section.
-
I chose mine because of what Kristin's avatar is.
GEAUX!!!!
Mine is just a Navy Chief emblem, but retired.
-
OK, college football is over until next August (sigh). So time to go back to my original avatar. Anyone else making changes or want to explain yours?
-
No changes planned until hopefully early February.
-
To honor the fine men and women in blue (or brown, green, grey, camo, etc.) who stand up to protect us from the wolves, from Mainstreet America to far off foerign lands.
-
Mine is my old windmill with a mockingbird sitting on the tail. It was a cold winter day for South Texas and one of my favorite pics I've ever taken. I painted the fan and tail like that after a buddy and I had to pull the motor down and rebuild it. It was the source of water for the house and cattle. We moved here six years ago and listening that windmill is what I think miss the most.
-
I wanted something "Canadian" to go along with Canadian John. I selected the maple leaf as a result..It is on our flag..
As far as being computer illiterate goes, I am at the bottom, not Kristin. My avatar was a challenge at first..
-
Mine is just a pic of my Memphis Elite chugging away, as for my user name I used to have a couple Kawasaki 750 quads (ATV’s) The user name started on an ATV forum & just carried it over to other forums.
-
Smilin Bob always cracked me up,
-
Even though I live in Arizona and Washington, I was born/raised in Louisiana and played football for the University of Louisiana in the early 60's, hence the UL logo.
-
I Chose mine because I like Goodness, (Brisket). Did a word search and discovered I had coined a new word "Briskitarian", had a tee and coffee mug made, and gave it a definition too.
[ Invalid Attachment ]
A "Briskitarian" is one of two types of people! One who smokes his or her hunks of Goodness until it probes like butter, or one who enjoys his or her Goodness that has been smoked until it probes like butter.
-
Little bit of a military aircraft buff. Picture was taken as the aircraft flew over my home during a show at the local airbase.
-
So you were playing about 15 years before my college time. Did you get to play the position I always wanted to play? Free Safety. My freshman HS season, I still had a suspension helmet!

Because sometimes people may think I'm an xxx. I'm trying to behave on the site.

In memory of a beautiful little girl we lost to cancer..

Never bothered to get one; too lazy, I guess....... ::)
-
Did you get to play the position I always wanted to play? Free Safety.
In my day, you had to play offense and defense. I was what would be called in todays game a tight end on offense and interior lineman on defense.
-
I have changed mine to better reflect my values.
-
3 reasons for avatar - Favorite food, regional icon, it's wicked good.
-
Did not have to, but I did too!

You have to be 10 years younger then me, how is that possible?

@PMillen is that a Vizla? I hunted over one for a few years. A friends may he RIP, had a wonderful Viz. The dog was smart unlike the owner LOL!! I raised Brittany's for years, had a few pointers as well. The memories of my Brits working a covey of Bobs or Blues, :) Oh man!! I miss that so much. Such a wonderful sight and feeling. :)
Thank you for bringing those memories back to me.
Mike
As far as an Avatar well I'm the unknown LOL!!
-
I picked our dog, Zolo, when he was a pup, mostly cuz he was a loving family member who was involved in EVERYTHING that happened. He was extremely social and was so inclusive - he wanted everyone he met to be part of his pack. Now, it exists as a memorial to him for we lost him the week before Thanksgiving this past year. I enjoy seeing his face every time I log on. ;D
-

??? Not unless you are 91
-
Well, it's not wood-fired, but it doesn't take long to get up to temp!

No, Mike, Willa’s a Weimaraner. In the avatar shot she’s standing near the edge of a huge set-aside field, her head high, testing for bird scent to home in on.
She’s what the breeders categorize as a Blue Weimaraner. But she’s more charcoal grey than blue. (Some are as blue as your jeans.) Almost every litter has at least one blue. The color doesn’t meet the AKC breed standard. They were closely held in their native Germany and the German breeders would destroy the non-standard pups.

Maddie on left, standard Color. Willa, on right, blue.
I don’t show or breed them so I selected a blue pup. Based on my one-dog blue sample compared to four greys, it appears that the blue weims are quite a bit quirkier, have hair that’s coarser and shed more. But like all Weimaraners, she’d rather hunt than eat.

:pig: I meant Lew!

Those are two really beautiful dogs Paul!!

Thanks Pmillen, was hard to tell just from the small avatar. Beautiful Dogs. :)
Happy Hunting!!!

Oh, I love them but I don't consider them particularly beautiful. When I think of beautiful dogs I think of Setters, Irish or English/Llewellin. My pair are beautiful in the field, tho’. Everyone, even non-hunters, should have an opportunity to watch quality pointer-retrievers work. You can see them “think†through problems and weigh the merits of their options. They’ll do what’s directed but Maddie audibly scoffs at me when she doesn’t agree, and she frequently scolds me with a look when I miss a shot.
-
We do all have different tastes. Your dogs are much better looking to me then an Irish setter. I do not know why, but that dog has always looked like a dufas to me. I am sure it is not true, they just look stupid to me. Yet I find a Sharpe or Bulldog to truly be a beautiful dog.
I would love this to happen!

But like all Weimaraners, she’d rather hunt than eat.
I'm retired from federal law enforcement and was lucky enough to be a canine handler for several years with a Belgian Malinois that was the same way. She'd rather search than eat, too. She wasn't psycho all the time like most of them, but when she got in one of the scents she was trained to detect it was off the the races. Her running and dragging me along through South Texas brush like an anchor on the end of the leash. She had a VERY high draft drive. Spent more time with the dog over the years than my wife and daughter when I was a handler. Now I have to find a picture of her and reminisce. And post it in the pets pics if I can figure it out. Took me a long time to get the avatar up. Here's to Laika!!

Yes, post those phots, please. I want to see that beautiful face.
Single-minded dogs fascinate me. There needs to be a new word to describe them because they are beyond single-minded. My dogs couldn't be any more gentle, but if they decided to bite you, you'd have to kill them to stop them because they never quit. It sounds as though Laika was the same.

Small school equipment passed down from upper class to lower classmen about every 4-5 years

I would have thought by that time they were all gone!

Ditto. Defensive end and offensive line. Small school. 9 Man.
I chose a picture of the style of ribs I do at home (BB's) that my wife likes. This is a BBQ site and ribs are about as BBQ as you can get.

Another passion of mine is riding my bicycle. Rff

Now that the college football season is over I will go back to one of my favorites, the Eagle Nebula...Better know to some as the Pillars of Creation. One of the 1st images from the Hubble Telescope after its cataract surgery in 1993.
I am told that Stars are born here, that the left pillar is 4 light years from top to bottom...that is 5,878.5 billion miles x 4. It is such a large number that I could not figure out how to do it with the zero's. So 23,514 billion miles or 23.514 trillion miles?
This Nebula is 7,000 light years from earth. There really is no historical time frame to compare when the light we now see from this nebula started its journey to us. The Pyramid of Khufu in Giza was built around 2560 BC. So the light started 2400 years before the Great Pyramid was built. Our galaxy is roughly 100,000 light years across, and we can only see about 6,000 light years into the disk in the visible spectrum. Estimates project that there are between 100 and 400 billion stars in the Milky Way. They also think that each star has at least one planet, which means there are likely to be hundreds of billions of planets in the Milky Way – billions of which are believed to be the size and mass of the Earth. And on top of that, they think the KNOWN Universe hold 10,000 galaxies...
Like all of the Universe, I cant comprehend any of that, so it seems very appropriate for me...

She sure was. I've got scars to prove it. Every time I got bit it was my fault. I should've been better at taking her reward away. She had worked her backside off to get it and didn't like to give it up. It was a rodeo every time getting it back.

I think you folks who work with hunting dogs and police/military dogs would be super puppy raisers, especially for future guide dogs. In a good service dog organization, the puppies go from their raiser to a professional trainer for a year or so and I know the pros do a fabulous job of working on commands and focus. But my worse flaw as a puppy raiser was working on focus -- which is what their service life is going to be about. It's part of the reason a lot washout.
Or maybe I should just come and spend a training season with some of you!!! ;D

I found a good picture of her! Here's Laika in all her glory!! Now I need to decide if I want it as my avatar. I like the windmill, though. Decision, decisions.
-
Good looking dog! She would make a great avatar. You can always switch them around for variety.
-
Beautiful face! She wasn't a youngster then, was she?
-
Football!!
-
Thank you for starting this thread, I had forgot to set my avatar!
Mine is spongebob because I couldn’t find a jpeg of Patrick cooking!
-
Beautiful face! She wasn't a youngster then, was she?
No she wasn't. She was retired due to arthritis. She was supposedly around seven when she was retired, but I think she was quite a bit older. Probably close to 10. I was lucky enough to get to keep her.

Nerd. And mad scientists are the ultimate cool nerds. Doc Brown, Frankenstein, Doctor Horrible, Mr. Peabody, Rick, Phineas and Ferb, etc. In fact my Halloween costume last year was almost exactly what my avatar is wearing, a Howie style lab coat and welding goggles (but with the dark lenses remove).
-
I may be from North Carolina but I am a Colorado Buffalo!

Now that football season is over, I changed mine to reflect one of my other interest, also my summer home. 8)

Just added mine and don't like it. How do you remove and replace? :help:
-
Just go to your profile, click modify profile and change your avatar.
-
I changed my avatar to the gardens at James Madiosn's Montpelier a while back to reflect my love of gardening. In a few weeks, it will be time to change it to the Tide's emblem for football season.
-
I chose mine because it reflects my favorite “hunk of Goodness†to smoke! I coined the name, did a word search for originality, had my tee shirt and coffee cup made and wear it with pride. [ Invalid Attachment ]

Going to see if this works.
Well what do you know?
Guess every now and then a guy gets lucky.
Not my boat, the pic is off the internet but I have the exact same boat.
I chose it because I just love the old MasterCrafts and enjoy the family times out at the lake.
-
Always wanted to try a Wake Board...

Nice
Mudflap
-
Nice Mudflap,
You got me beat, that is VERY NICE. I got mine and it had been neglected (not destroyed) just not taken care of and we have pretty much gone through everything on it.
It looks like a different boat now.
I rebuilt the motor, velvet drive (actually had that done), wiring (just cleaned up the lake fix splices etc), many many hours rubbing it out and getting some good wax on it and some upholstery work
We just have always had boats but used to be flat bottoms. Too old, too scared and didn't think my kids would let me take our granddaughter out in a flatty. That was said in jest, I would NEVER have done it.
Tried a Sanger Superjet for a few years and liked it but never been a big squirt gun fan so I found this and latched on.
I just think they are cool boats and we have a ton of fun with it.
-
Tried to use one of my own. Couldn't get it done at the time so I chose mine from the list. I like Bruce W.
Now just figured it out. Pic of me and copilot at 3000 feet over Interlocken, Switzerland. "Highest" I've every been. She took the selfie with a camera on a long rod. You might say the 'high point' of my life. My bride was also in the air at the same time. We were both 67 at the time. Both landed on our feet in the town square.
-
Sanger boats, saw a lot of them living in Fresno...Sanger is about 20 minutes away!

Its my 1998 Trans Am Convertible. It is in Bright Purple Metallic with only 42 were ever made. They only painted cars for 1/2 yr due to not many orders for the color. Only have 35K on the odometer.
