If you have experience cooking on an residential induction range, usually a 240V, 4-burner or more unit, please participate in the poll. I doubt there will be more than 1/2 dozen people that have actual experience cooking with a residential induction range so the sample size will be quite small. The few people that have actual experience cooking on a residential induction range and a gas range, please explain why you prefer one over the other.
If your only experience with induction is a countertop 120V unit, please do not respond to the poll. Feel free to leave a comment but please do not respond to the poll itself. This is to see what people that have actual cooking experience with both gas and induction residential ranges prefer.

Please periodically post the results. I think that I need to be a voter in order to see the tally.

The box for "Show the poll's results to anyone." is checked. Under the options in the poll at the top should be a box that says "submit vote" and below that should be another box that says "view results". Click on "view results" to see the current status. I have the only vote so far. ;)

Duh! I didn't see it. Thanks.

I haven't cooked on gas, but we switched to an induction cooktop about a year ago. Changing temperatures is nearly immediate. In general, I'm very happy with the cooktop. My only nit is that when I take a lid off a pan and condensate runs from the lid to the cooktop, the moisture on the cooktop can shut off power to the burners.
Edit: Since I don't have experience with gas, I didn't vote.

Oh? on my small 120 volt induction cooktop, that's not a issue. Only issue with water/liquid getting on the surface of the cooktop , is that the pan will potentially have a small amount of water between it and the cook top surface, and it's never presented any problems really.

I interpreted JeffCO's post to be the water runs off the lid and lands where the button are, and turns it off. Kind of like the water droplets are pushing the buttons. The water landing on the cooktop is not the issue. The issue is where the water is running to, specifically on the controls and changing settings. I could be wrong though.

Correct.

240v is the standard in this part of the world. We replaced our ceramic electric range with and induction about 6 months ago and we're very happy with it. Here are some reasons.
Pros:
- We don't have piped gas so we would have to have LPG delivered and a gas fitter to do the installation.
- Instant on/off like gas.
- Being able to do controlled low simmering/warming has been great.
- Ability to set a auto-shut off timer for each element
- Element has auto-off when you remove the pan for any length of time.
- If you let something boil dry, it senses an over-temperature and shuts down.
Cons:
- We had to get rid of over half of our pots/pans because they weren't magnetic so wouldn't work.
Hope this helps.

Been years since we had a gas range. I'd prefer gas but have none near our house so it would have to be propane. Have 240v induction range now. So far, SWMBO likes the cleaning aspect best of all cause I'm a slob when I cook. Specially bacon. And gas tops are nitoriously labor intensive to clean. Too long since gas so I didn't vote either.

I miss my gas range
I was amazed how the induction cook top was just about as fast/hot as the gas range
I've even experimented with the two (same induction ready pan, ice water, and a stopwatch)
my induction cooktop heated the same amount of ice water in the same pan about 30 seconds slower than my father in law's gas range
I prefer gas,
but induction is still alot better than regular electric coils or the sealed halogin cooktops
