Yesterday Claire and I visited one of our favorite local spots, Assateaque Island. Not only did we walk around parts of the island but we were also fortunate to see some of its wild life to include a sleeping pony and a few deers.

A couple of pictures

That is neat, did it ever notice you were near it?
Must be pretty safe place as it looks like it has nothing to fear.

This isn't where they heard the ponies and they swim to the island every year is it?
-
No, that would be Chincoteague Island.

The island is great for seeing the ponies in this case we were walking a board walk it was down below us next to the water and apparently did not see us. They are quite use to seeing humans so they do not normally move, nor do the deer, when humans are about. All that being said one should not get close to them as they are wild ponies and will lash out if you get too close. We recently had a visitor despite the warnings went to close to one and he got kicked not once but twice.
