I like to listen to music while I'm cooking. I change up often, but I'll list my current top 5. What's yours?
1. Jason Isbell, specifically his newest album Nashville sound
2. John Moreland
3. Mandolin orange (heading to Indy for concert on Tuesday)
4. Lindsay Lou and the flatbellys
5. The black Lillies
-
The list is vast. As long as I can appreciate it, it's welcome.
I'm currently listening to jets take off at SeaTac. ::)
-
I spent my formative years as a cellist playing in orchestras, so I probably have a little different list than most (it is also the reason Bent and I never listen to music while traveling in the same car!):
1. Beethoven
2. Tchaikovsky
3. Brahms
4. Mendelsohn
5. Grieg
Yes, yes, very heavy on the Germanic-Nordic guys, but those French and Italians can be soooooo emotive ;D
-
I realize that you are a generation behind me...usually at least I have seen the name, maybe never heard their music, but know the name of the group. I have never heard or seen any of those 5!

Other than possibly Jason isbell, most people my age probably wouldn't either. I don't like pop music at all, and tend to go for the slower lyrical based stuff. I mentioned on pelletheads one time that I'm known as "dj mortuary" by family and friends. No one wants me running the speaker.
-
I am a classic country music guy when I am running the pit. You give me some Willie and Waylon and all that stuff from the 70's and early 80's and I am happy!
-
Waylon Jennings
Hank Williams Jr
Conway Twitty
George jones
Johnny Cash
Merle Haggard
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Randy Travis
Steve Earle
Travis Tritt

Very interesting. I used to go to the Fort Wayne philharmonic with the neighbors as a kid. Haven't been in years, but it is a cool experience. They do more modern shows these days to try to attract younger audiences by playing movie themes, songs from video games, etc. It's not my favorite music, but it's hard not to appreciate what those musicians do.
I checked out the fw philharmonic site. Looks like some great events coming up.

I like the upcoming Fort Wayne Phil schedule, really my kind of classical programs (except for the Bach, I have never been drawn to Bach). I had season tickets for the LA Phil for years in the mid-80's to early 90's. Then Esa-Pekka Salonen became director and I was done. Way too much modern and contemporary classical music. It was almost like he had a 6th sense -- "hey, Kristin hates Shostakovich , so every program is going to have one symphony by him, maybe two."
I must also say I like Quadman's choices. I know, a classical cellist who likes country music, strange combo. Do love The Highwaymen.

Ahhh, Bach....

You old school country fans should check out Jason isbell if you haven't. I've been going to his shows for years, but he's kind of blowing up these days. I saw him open for Willie Nelson, but he's selling plenty tickets on his own now. His comeback from alcoholism is an uplifting story as well. He was about as low as it gets at one point.

PUNK ROCK!!!!!!!!

I don't listen to anything when cooking.
When Chillin', eyes only opening to refill a wine glass, I'll listen to individual pieces like–
1. Fauré—Pavane, OP. 50
2. Debussy—Claire de Lune
3. Saint-Saëns—Carnival of the Animals, XIII, The Swan
4. Tchaikovsky—String Quartet No. 1 In D Major, Op. 11: II. Andante cantabile
5. Ravel—Pavane For a Dead Princess
When drivin' I'll choose something like–
1. Bee Gees
2. ABBA
3. Rita Coolidge
4. The Eagles
5. Leo Sayer
-
I had a music teacher who made me play The Swan as practice. You had to be able to demonstrate/master all positions because of the range. It is a beautiful piece when played by a good cellist. With me, I think it was renamed The Goose.
-
1. Rush
2. Todd Snyder
3. Queen
4. Warren Zevon
5. Lord Huron
-
1. Rush

4. Warren Zevon
5. Lord Huron
Pretty diverse list. If I remember correctly, pretty sure todd Snyder did Jason isbells wedding ceremony.

Finally, someone with some musical taste... :rotf:
Just joking of course. I rarely listen to music when cooking. Think its because I'm listening constantly while mowing clients lawns, and I just want some quiter time...

Roy Orbison
Johny Cash
B-52's
Willie Nelson
Meatloaf
-
Waylon Jennings
Hank Williams Jr
Conway Twitty
George jones
Johnny Cash
Merle Haggard
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Randy Travis
Steve Earle
Travis Tritt
Now, that is a playlist I can get behind. I'm a classic country guy too, but I also like a lot of Country music from the 80's and 90's. Right now, I'm not cooking anything, but am visiting family. I'm sitting here reading Pelletfan and listening to Don Williams, and waiting for the rest of the family to wake up (I'm a very early riser!) before making breakfast!

I would say my tastes are probably closest to FMT's
1-The Avett Brothers
2-Jason Isbell
3- Band Of Horses
4- The Wood Brothers
5- Zac Brown

Yes. Definitely same stable of music. Zac Brown used to be my favorite main stream band. Have seen them live several times. Did not care for the newest album whatsoever.
Saw you were from Wisconsin. I saw Jason isbell in fish creek a few years ago. It was a really fun show. I've been to several of his, and that was probably my favorite.

Totally agree with you on ZBB's latest effort. Fish Creek has a pretty cool vibe, had to be a pretty intimate performance, sounds fun.
-
I don't either...Was always partial to great guitar riffs...there are so many for me...these would be 5 of my favorites...If you wanna skip to the Jam the riff starts at the time listed...
1. Clapton-Let it Rain (https://youtu.be/mi3WxjnjJ80) 3:50
2. REO Speedwagon-Roll with the Changes (https://youtu.be/nEidbkibsiE) 3:55
3. Jefferson Starship-Save your Love (https://youtu.be/u3qtGmzeugE) 3:30
4. UF0-Love to Love (https://youtu.be/M687f5m6QZw) 6:50

I'm pretty much stuck in the 50's and early 60's with a few things more up to date occasionally. Old R&R. No rap xxxx.
-
If you listen to any of the "music" Bentley listed, you know why we can't listen to music in the car together. He was selecting these pieces this morning and I finally had to ask how much money it would take to make it stop.

I forgot Joe Banamassa

It was at the door community auditorium. Says 725 seats on their site. Very cool. He's playing a bit bigger venues these days, but still small enough to be enjoyable. We really liked fish creek. Made the 7 hour drive basically for the show, but made a little mini vacation out of it. Took the kids zip lining, and hung out around the area for a few days.

I was thinking of something like Deep Purple's Smoke on the water...
-
Or maybe... Blue Oyster Cult... - Cities on Flame With Rock and Roll
Bownsville Sation's - Smokin In the Boys room probably doesn't work too well though. But did get to know Cub Coda a little , so for sure can get through a little bit of the negative implied with Smokin in the Boys room while BBQing.
So, maybe Cub Coda's song 'Bacon Fat'

I love country from the 80's & 90's, that's my era but grew up with the old stuff.
-
I'd rather have a colonoscopy than suffer with country music post 1980's.
That being said, as long as it's metal, loud, and can make my ears bleed, I'll listen to it.
If I had to choose just one band....... AC/DC.
Depending on my mood.
The Who
Uncle Ted
G and R
Pink Floyd
Just about any 80's hair band.
I may be old, but I refuse to grow up.

Our music tastes certainly vary. I think of the line–
Music hath charms to soothe a savage breast...
Almeria
The Mourning Bride, 1697, Act 1, Scene 1
Author: William Congreve
(Usually misquoted as "...to soothe a savage BEAST.")
Not all that many are of the soothing nature.
-
Ohh, I forgot one of the top 3 all time for me...
Comfortable Numb (https://youtu.be/iJZYG5qwHHI)

I guess if you were to look at the question as a list of the top five smoking artists I guess my list would look something like this (in no particular order):
Smoke on the Water – Deep Purple https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUwEIt9ez7M
I may Smoke too Much – Kris Kristofferson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_0fGgZHgEI
Smoke and Ashes – Tracy Chapman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0vU042zwHU
Smoke Signal – The Band https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWGl89Jl02s
Smoke Stack – John Coltrane - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hui-qh9ZGcM
Smokey Robinson gets an honorable mention!
