First things that come to mind for me are cabbage steaks, Sweet Potato steaks. Then you have the cauliflower wings.

I think the bigger issue will be how you cook it. Unless I am wrong true vegan will not want something cooked along side and sometimes even on the same cooking equipment that anything animal is being cooked or has been cooked on. Not sure it will be difficult to do, but more of having this person that is new to you trust that you do not take any shortcuts when it come to cross contamination for lack of a better term.

We just got some new neighbors too this past Monday.  I don't know their eating habits yet, but I sure hope it doesn't include vegan.   ;D

Kinda fun to watch people who expect the world to conform to their peculiarities.

I've never tasted it, but I've always heard that people cook jackfruit like pulled pork. I think it's supposed to end up with a similar texture. Google jackfruit pulled pork and several recipes come up.

Do a search on this board for it too.  I am pretty sure someone on here tried it.

Marinated and grilled Portobello mushrooms and you may even be able to do some sort of mixed sauteed veggies as a stuffing

Or you can go to Burger King and get them one of those fake meat burgers

FMT is correct.

There is a vegan restaurant at the top of Palomar Mountain that sells jackfruit based tacos that are excellent and I cannot tell the difference between real pulled pork and their version.

Portobello burgers are something I make several times a summer. They really pick up a wood fired taste and aroma.

Yeah, I often stuff and smoke portobellos.  But I'm not certain that it meets a vegans needs.  They're okay for my Muslim friends.

I served a vegan friend a plant based smoked burgers paired with cauliflower mashed potatoes topped with a plant based cheese. I tried the burger, but it was not for me, however, the mashed cauliflower with cheese was not bad.

I do like the cauliflower mashed potatoes and I do things like cauliflower fried rice periodically, being a diabetic and trying to keep the carbs down. Not sure I could do fake cheese though. I'm not sure I understand the point of fake meat other then those few people that have a health condition that forces them not to eat it.  If your against meat why would you want something that tastes like it?

As far as for the vegan BBQ kind of thing I have had really good shiitake mushroom burgers in the past. You can smoke them at low temp until almost cooked through and then one of the best ones I had, involved a fresh salsa placed in the mushroom when it was upside down and got to cook into it a bit. Very flavorful and a nice texture.

I saw a show on a vegetarian restaurant that used big slices of beet and grilled and served on a hamburger bun with all the fixins.  I assume beet is also vegan, but don't know much about vegan cooking.

Vegan is just a step past vegetarian. Many vegetarians consume dairy or eggs, but vegan goes to the point of not consuming anything that has any kind of animal or animal product in it.

I was told they dont eat anything with a face or anything that comes from anything with a face.  So I said I guess they can eat scallops...I was asked to leave.
