Interesting for me to be able to compare typical US prices with those of the UK here. I would have guessed US prices would have been a lot cheaper, but it doesn't look far out.

I buy a lot of my BBQ meat online as the local butcher, while brilliant, concentrates on typical British cuts and meat joints. So almost all of the brisket they sell is rolled.

But I can order from a reputable only butcher, and have delivery in a couple of days. Normally I make the order up with other things to go in my freezer, to make it worthwhile and get free delivery.

One of the company's I use, Turner & George (https://www.turnerandgeorge.co.uk/), does a 6kg (13.2lb) Packer Cut Brisket for £63. That works out to £4.77/lb or $6.60.

Last week, I bought a piece of pickled (brined) brisket from them for £22.00. It was listed at 1.2kg, but when it arrived, it was 2.25kg, for the same price. So if they supplied exactly what I ordered, it would have been £8.33/lb ($11.51). But for what they actually supplied, it worked out at £4.45/lb ($6.15).

Needless to say, I was very happy - that was what I used to make my pastrami.

No one would believe this without the pic.  Yesterday in a local chain. This was choice!
And at Costco today untrimmed was $3.49 lb. for Prime. Trimmed it would come out around $5.00 lb.

I would not have paid the $7.98/lb price for the flat I bought if I had not already mentioned smoking a brisket for my brother/SIL and niece's family for the fourth of July at out new home in Arkansas on our new deck.

I called Sams club here in Charlotte - they had prime.  Turnes out $4.99 for prime brisket.  13.5ish lbs.  There was one MONSTER at 17 lbs but I got 2 x 13.5'rs to be consistent in cooking.

I thought that was a great price.  They were Excel if that matters.  Just pulled after 14 hours.  Excited!

Happy Fathers Day guys.

Got one on sale here in Culpeper, Va yesterday.  Regular price was $5.99 a pound and sales price was $3.99.  Our meat prices seem to go up every week!

Funny I remember people saying they would never pay $3.00/# for brisket. Now this price is a steal.

That is bad news.  So I figure you can tack on about $2/lb. to every piece of Beef in Costco.  Will be curious next week when we go to see if ground beef is $5/lb.

Were still $2.79/lb yesterday here.
Probably should have bought another, but got ribs instead for $2.99/lb.

Sam's Club ground beef was less than $4.  Choice strip steaks were $11 and filet mignon $20.

There is a local farmers market that one of the sellers is advertising grass fed beef and I am tempted by this.  But what grade would it be.  They also have halves of pigs and beef.  Has anyone bought from an individual farmer?

Technically it would not be graded, but I understand what you are asking.  I am not sure if you are aware of the differences between a corn/grain finished beef and grass fed?  It will have less muscular fat, but will be higher in Omega-3' & other nutrients,.  Grass fed has always had a slightly metallic flavor for me.  I have heard some say a slightly gamey flavor, but I have never noticed that.  To me no matter the grade, corn fed is always more tender.  But if you are in the medium or less temperature range for cooking, I think that mitigates some of that!

Thinking there will be a lot of meat that will be thrown out at the meat departments all across the land as demand drops off due to higher prices.  Keep an eye out for deals as they try to get rid of older stock.
As they say in the commodity markets: “The cure for higher prices is higher prices.” Demand drops off and they have to lower prices to get rid of excess inventory.

I bit the bullet last week and bought a ~16 lb packer for $5.11/lb at Restaurant Depot.

Unfortunately the baby back ribs and Boston butt prices were higher than my grocery store…and not a discount grocery store either.
I wanted baby backs but chose not to spend the $60+ on a 3-rack package. It was half that last year.

Side note since it’s been asked before…RD had tons of chicken wings. Both whole wings and cut up party wings. Price was in the $3/lb range and I think boxes were 40 lbs.

I found frozen Tyson wings at Sam's for $2.50/# for 10# bag on Saturday.  Ribs were $4.89/#.  I ended up buying two racks at Aldi for $3.12/#.  Will see how they are.  I am sure I will have to run them under water to remove the solution they use in the bag.  Brisket was about the prices that you mentioned, Ralphie.

The Costco in Vista, CA has prime packers for 5.99 per lb. and choice flats for $7.49 per lb.

Yikes...

Aldi just opened 10 minutes from my house. I need to give it a shot. I’ve never been to an Aldi before. That rib price is half of my other alternatives.

Had an Aldi not far from us when we lived in Texas.
Only shopped there once I think.
We're used to buying particular brands of products, and their product have names we had never heard of.

Most of their products are there own brand.  If their ribs weren't almost $2/# lower than Sam's, I would not have bought them.

Has anyone bought from an individual farmer?

My brother and I used to purchase a 1/2 cow back when we had young kids. We had about 3 different farms that we used and all where outstanding. If you can find a local farm that you like I would suggest buying a few items to see how the quality is. For example buy some steaks, beef ribs, etc.
